    Blackmane Losing path missions

Ah, perhaps I should clarify things. There are two series of Blackmane missions : The first one is the one everyone knows about. In the first mission of this series, you must defend the Blackmane base and kill Paktahn ace Bloodmist. The second series, not nearly as well-known, is the one that...

    Blackmane Losing path missions

Hi everybody! So, I was replaying the GOG version of Wing Commander 3, and I decided to let the Kilrathi warheads reach Locanda IV (I used autopilot to fly straight back to the Victory after destroying the enemy ships but not the warheads) so that I could play the alternate versions of the...

WC1 - Brimstone 3 - Bronze Star for Killing Maniac!

All right, so I've just tried it with WC Origin -k (cheat mode + invulnerability). I used the GOG version of WC1. Here's what I did : -I took out the Gratha and the Ralari without using ALT-Del. Hunter was there, but I did not let him kill anything (I told him "Keep formation!"). -I took out...

WC1 - Brimstone 3 - Bronze Star for Killing Maniac!

If that helps, I believe you need to destroy every ship (or nearly every ship) without letting your wingman have any kills. Also, I was using the DOS version of WC1 at the time, so I'm not sure whether it would work with the KS version. (Mind you, it's been years since I last tried this, so I...

Fight against Seether - music bug

So, after speaking to the GOG team, it became obvious that the DOS version of WC4 that you can download on Good Old Games does not work. Therefore, I bought another copy on eBay, and this one works great with a few DosBox tweaks. However, I did run into a strange bug that doesn't seem to occur...

WC1 - Brimstone 3 - Bronze Star for Killing Maniac!

I have gotten the Medal of Valor in Hell's Kitchen 4 before, however I do believe it's only possible to get it if you kill several aces (possibly all four of them) during the mission (so that means not killing them in previous missions, in order to make them show up in Hell's Kitchen 4).

    WC4 DOS version

Hi guys! So I was playing the GOG DOS version of Wing Commander 4, and I got to the part where you have to "insert" the second CD. Since the full version is supposed to be installed on my hard drive, I just pressed enter, and then I got a read error. Pressing Ctrl + F4 to try to swap CDs does...

WC games you own/have played/have finished

As the title suggests, I was wondering which WC games you own, and which ones you've finished. As for me : WC1, SM1, SM2 : I have both the DOS version, and the KS version, which I downloaded from the CIC. I have seen all of the endings and completed most missions (I believe I still need to...

First Wing Commander game, Naval and Army ranks....

I agree that using Lances to scare Logo VI into not rebelling seems to be pretty evil, but I find it interesting that Blair isn't necessarily a very good person in the good ending : it's perfectly possible to get the good ending even if you use the Flash-Pak on the Ella superbase (and it's also...

    WC4 game over quotes

I used both Google and this forum's search feature to find a list like this one, but I found nothing. So I decided to make one instead. Here's a list of the various game over messages you can get when you get killed in WC4. Please let me know if I missed any! Are you an earthworm or an eagle...

    Your Favorite Taunt

"Your tactics are useless. Better come up with something, if you want to live!" - Seether Also, my absolute favorite comm message isn't a taunt, but a damage report from Standoff - namely the one that the Rapier techs give you in Episode 5 when their ships are badly damaged. I can't seem to...

Wing Commander IV Sketches (April 3, 2012)

Nice sketches! So the Bearcat was originally supposed to be a medium fighter... This isn't overly surprising, given its sheer speed and maneuverability (if I remember correctly, it's the fastest ship in the game). Maybe the development team decided to give it tougher shields and armor at some...

Expansion Packs Released for EA Games on GOG! (December 20, 2012)

Because I forgot about the start menu. :) Thanks for the tip! Apparently, the same is true for WC1 and WC2 - the add-ons don't show up on the desktop, but they do show up in the start menu. You play them with DosBox, so I guess that would make them the DOS versions. However, I can't...

Expansion Packs Released for EA Games on GOG! (December 20, 2012)

Currently, there seems to be no GOG desktop shortcut for Righteous Fire, and no RF.EXE file either. In this release, Righteous Fire can be launched by typing "priv r" in Dosbox. Alternatively, you could make a copy of the shortcut that the GOG installer creates on your desktop, and then edit its...

Gemini's Famous Foursome on the Ballot (November 5, 2012)

I see the Centurion as one of the most powerful ships in Wing Commander, and if you count the RF upgrades, it may very well be the deadliest WC ship ever. Great firepower, good shields, great armor, good speed and maneuverability, potentially infinite afterburner, self-repair... That said, I'm...

Inverting the mouse in WC games that you play within DOSBox

Today, I happened to stumble upon a DOSBox thread which I thought might help some Wing Commander players. As we know, in most WC games, the mouse is not inverted, but in WC Privateer, its Y axis is inverted - this can be a problem when, say, you've just played WC1 and you have to get used to...

    Privateer/RF reputation

It's not, you got them in the right order. I used that trick a lot when I was in trouble, although if you've been too hostile towards a faction, they'll have plenty of time to blow you up before you manage to make them friendly. Paradigms and Kamekhs take longer to reply to comm messages, as...

    Privateer/RF reputation

Thanks! Theoretically, someone with a lot of patience and a lot of free time could pull this off in less than two weeks, since you can destroy around 100 Retro ships per hour if you're fast enough. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I won't try it again. I'm still seeing white talons flying in front of...

    Privateer/RF reputation

Being friendly with the Kilrathi does make the last two Taryn Cross missions much easier, but other than that, yeah; the fact that there aren't many random Kilrathi encounters means that having cat allies isn't as helpful as one might think. Unless you fly a Tarsus, because then you need all the...
