To avoid problems with dirty discs i'd recommend creating images of all cds and then mount them on virtual drives such as daemon tools (emulates up to 4 drives). It makes gameplay a lot more convenient as well. :p

is the file "xanlib.dl" still present in the wc4 directory of the harddrive? Did you set the compatibility of WC3W.EXE to Windows 95 (if vista still has that...)?

Also note that the only thing to do in order to patch your WC4 to Windows 95 is to copy XANLIB.dll and WC4.EXE to your install directory (e.g. c:\wc4) and then activate Windows 95-compatibility in the preferences of WC4.EXE. There is no actual patching process ;)
