    Privateer Hates PCI... The only time I was able to run Privateer smoothly and without any problems whatsoever was when I had an ISA sound card. The motherboard I'm using right now only has PCI/AGP expansion slots.. c'est la vie.

    I don't think so... I'm not very familiar with anything under DirectX 3.0, but the DirectX install procedure checks to see if it needs to update the current DirectX files. But the easiest way to check this is to run the dxdiag.exe program. Just do a "Find Files or Folders" from the Start menu.

    Fix? Doing a mem /c/p shows you which TSRs and device drivers are loaded and how much memory they are taking up. Try copying your priv.tre and/or rf.tre files from your Privateer CD (assuming you have the Privateer CD ROM?) to your Privateer game directory on your hard drive. After that, edit...

    Privateer in Win98 SE?

    I broke down.. .. and pieced back together my first computer, a 486/33 with 8 megs of ram. I've tried everything, I think. The only problem I seem to have with running Privateer on my Pentium III in real DOS is that the digital audio (speech) is just a bunch of screeching.
