NOTE: Although this walkthrough is complete and tells you everything you need to do, it is much more helpful if you have the official ORIGIN Ultima Underworld II hintbook, Gems of Enlightenment. The walkthrough is keyed to the maps in this book.

Always return to Britannia and talk to people again and again. Sometimes the plot will not continue until you speak to a person.
Enter The Worlds!
1. Talk to Lord British.
Avatar's Quarters (Britannia Level 1)
Grab your Automap and supplies. Use the secret door in the north wall. Get the Rune bag and the Rune stones. Use the switch in the north wall to open passage. Go talk to Lord British in the Throne Room (7). Go to Dupre's Room (2). Talk to Dupre and get the key to the sewers. You need to talk to EVERYONE each time you visit the castle. They will provide valuable information and important items needed to continue the game. Explore the castle. You will find some helpful items (weapons, armor, etc.). Go unlock the door to the sewers (6). Enter the sewers.
The Sewers Level 1 (Britannia Level 3)
Talk to Fissif. Get the pocketwatch from him. Arrest him (he will become a valuable trainer). You will come to some moving elevators; avoid them. There will be a locked gate south of the elevators. A hidden switch is located just to the right of the gate. Use the 'look' icon and start clicking around. Use the switch to open the gate. There is not much more to do on this level for now. Descend to the next level down.
The Sewers Level 2 (Britannia Level 4)
On this level are non-hostile Dread Spiders. They have something you need; the spider eggs. Beware: they will attack you if you disturb their property! Get an egg and get ready to fight. Also you may want to get a key located in the Reaper area. The key is hidden in the far west corner of his den, hidden amongst some debris. This key will open the door to the Armory on Britannia Level 2. Located here is the sword of Major Damage (hidden amongst some plants) and a Tremor scroll. On this level is an area of lava (SE corner). Behind the lava is a secret passage which can only be accessed later in the game. You first need to talk to Altara in Killorn Keep. Within this passage is a Listener which you must kill with the Dagger that Altara gives you.

The Sewers Level 3 (Britannia Level 5)
There are no key items you need to find except the Portal Gem. Enter the gem by walking into the lighted facet.
GO TO THE PRISON TOWER.
First Visit:
1. Get the blackrock gem from Borne.
Prison Tower Level 1: The Basement
When you enter here you will see some supplies and a note. Get the note (voucher). Now go to level 2.
Prison Tower Level 2: First Floor
Several goblin guards are wandering about. You do not need to attack them. Talk to one of them and explain you are not a spy and need to deliver supplies to the kitchen. He will ask for proof. Give him the voucher you picked up from level 1. You can also bribe this guard to unlock the door for you. You can also slay them and you will get the key. When you pass through the gate you will come to a door. Opening this door reviles a passage which abruptly comes to another door; locked. You must close the other door behind you before you open the other. Continue to level 3. Also on this level are two large doors leading outside (or it appears). These doors cannot ever be opened.
Prison Tower Level 3: Second Floor
This is the Goblin Barracks. Here you will meet a guard named Freemis. At this point in the game he is little use. Move on to the next level; level 4.
Prison Tower Level 4: Third Floor
This level contains the kitchen and pantry. There is a guard here named Janar. He has two keys you need, but wait to get the password. In the kitchen are two humans; one a mute named Marcus (his tongue cut out), and the other is a man named Felix. Talk to Felix and tell him you wish to help him out. He will ask you to kill Freemis. Do not kill Freemis yet. Continue on to the next level; level 5.
Prison Tower Level 5: Fourth Floor
The Armory is located here. The door to the armory cannon be opened yet; be patient. There is a goblin armorer you need to speak to. He is making gauntlets from a substance called Fraznium. Explain to him how you would make the gauntlets. Talk to him again and ask for a pair of them. He will give you the Fraznium gauntlets. Onward to level 6!
Prison Tower Level 6: Fifth Floor
The Captain's Floor. Here you will find a door with the face of the Guardian on it. This is the door to Borne's (goblin captain) room. Talk to Borne and claim you are the interrogator. He will give you a password (write it down, this password changes!) and another pair of Fraznium gauntlets. Talk to him again and ask him for the keys to the other cells (you will need to be stern with him!). He will give you another password. Again, write it down! Go back to level 4 and talk to Janar. Give him the second password. Take the keyring. In this keyring are two keys. One key opens Garg's cell on level 6. The other key will open several doors about the level. Now journey back up to level 6. Go talk to the guard outside of the locked door. Give him the password (or use your key). The door will open. There is another door on this level that contains Garg. Open this later. Continue to the next level; level 7.
Prison Tower Level 7: Sixth Floor
Ignore the guards here. Turn right and find the chain on the east wall. It will open the gate to level 8.
Prison Tower Level 8: Seventh Floor
On this level you will find the prisoners. Go to the west door and walk through the force field and open the door (you must be wearing the Franzium gauntlets). Talk to Bishop. Give him the extra pair of gauntlets. Exit his cell and open the first door to the right. In this cell will be a goblin named Milenus. Talk to him and tell him he is free. Open the door across from his cell. You may want to kill the creatures here (Mongbats); they will give experience points. Continue back down to level 7. Talk to Borne again. Demand him to give you the blackrock gem. He will give it to you. Now free Garg with the key you got from Janar (be nice to him!) He will then proceed to kill all the goblins in the tower. Let the looting begin! Here is your chance to get a bunch of gold. Gather it at will. Don't forget about Felix and Marcus on level 4. Go back and talk to Felix. Tell him you killed Freemis and he will give you the cornucopia. Back to Britannia!
GO TO BRITANNIA LEVEL 1
GO TO KILLORN KEEP
First Visit:
1. Meet with Altara and agree to kill the listener.
Killorn Keep Level 1:
Lots of people to visit here. Try to avoid Relk until you talk to everyone else. When you first arrive in the keep you will be in the common area where shopkeepers are selling their items. The first person to visit is Lord Thibris. He will tell you a little bit of history about the keep. Lobar will yield lots of useful information (you must talk to him before you speak to Mystall). Go talk to Mystall and tell her you will help her in her quest to spy on Altara. Go speak to Altara. Explain to her Mystall's intentions. You and her will now join forces against the Guardian (she does not join your party!). She will ask you to defeat the Guardian's 'Listener'. She will give you a dagger to do the job. Leave and go kill the Listener on Britannia level 4.
Couple of SUB-PLOT's.
You can take these plots, but you don't need to.
The Trilkhai. You can speak to Josie and give her the water. Speak with Blackie. Blackie will ask you to find out the history of their race. This is to be done by talking to the Wisps in the Ethereal Void later in the game.
The Banner of Killorn. Ogri will ask you to recover a banner to him in exchange for some secrets about the Keep. The banner is found in the Tomb of Praecor Loth. The information he will give is the direction to the Engine room.
GO TO BRITANNIA LEVEL 4
GO TO KILLORN KEEP LEVEL 1
Second Visit:
1. Meet with Altara again after you kill the listener and accept her next quest.
Killorn Keep Level 1:
Visit Altara and tell her you have slain the Listener. She will now trust you and offer you another quest. Accept the quest and she will give you a black pearl and some rune stones. You must now seek the items to make the scepter. You need 3 items: The black pearl (she just gave you), a spiders egg (from the spiders on Britannia level 4 [18]), and an amethyst rod (Talorus Level 1). Now may be a good time to check out what lies underneath the keep. Descend to the next level.
Killorn Keep: Level 2
In this level you will get the blackrock gem. Very easy. Walk down the main passage until you come to the gate. On the North wall will be a secret door. Open this door and go down the ramp. At the end of the passage will be a alter with candles in it. If you walk on or attempt to jump over this, you will be teleported to the Killorn Deathtrap! Extinguish the flames on the candles by picking them up and throwing them away. Now you can jump across and slay the headlesses. Grab the gem and leave the level. Go back to the Portal Gem and enter in the East facet.
GO TO THE ICE CAVES LEVEL 1
First Visit:
1. Get the blackrock gem.
Ice Caves Level 1:
You will be moving from level to level a lot. The ground here will have ice on it. Walk slowly. You will slide if you are not careful. Just head South and take the stairs to level 2.
Cool items to find:
Scroll of Waterwalk found in area (1).
Ice Caves Level 2:
Ice Caves Level 1:
After you get up the stairs you will come to the an Ice Golem. Kill him and get the key. Unlock the door behind him. You will then need to head across the river again and follow the passage until you come to a cliff with an island (8); the dam controls. Jump across onto the control tower. Adjust them as follows:
Switch up, button off, chain up, and lever up.
Lever down, chain up, button on, and switch down.
Jump across through the teleporter bars again and find the locked door. Open this door with the key you found in the maze. Inside, pull the chain to open the dam. Leave the maze and return the way you came. Go down the stairs to level 2.
Ice Caves Level 2:
Cast 'Walk on Water' and walk across over to the other side of the river. Walk up the ramp and you will come to Anodunos. Find Beatrice the Ghost and talk to her. Tell her you will help rid this place of the Guardian. Nothing much behind those doors in Anodunos. They don't have any keys to unlock the doors so you will need to pick the lock or cast 'Open' on them. Take the stairs up over to the Northeast corner of Anodunos. Cross the bridge and go down the stairs. Cast 'Open' on the locked door to the South of this room. Inside you will find a cursed Tower Shield and some rune stones. To open the secret door to the South, look on the East wall. Use the 'look' icon and start clicking on the wall until it reveals the switch. Use the switch and enter the secret room. Grab the wand, scepter, and runes. Leave the Ice Caves. And continue to Britannia. After you get your gems treated by Nystul, add them to the Portal Gem and enter the Southeast facet.
Cool items to find:
Scepter of Mana Restore in secret room South of area (12).
GO TO TALORUS LEVEL 1
First Visit:
1. Get the blackrock gem.
Talorus Level 1:
You can make your visit to Talorus very quick. Ignore the sub-plots. Do not talk to anything. Maneuvering in Talorus is difficut to master. When you enter, head in the direction of one of the yellow plates on the ground. This plate will boost your character up to the ledge. You may need to try several times to master this. Go to area (14) and grab the Amethyst Rod (purple rod). Take one of the vertical passages (17) down to level 2.
Talorus Level 2:
When you arrive in the room, leave to the North exit. Run across the lava and grab the blackrock gem (12). Take the yellow pad back up to the first level and leave Talorus at area (0). Enter the Portal Gem on the Northeast facet to go to the keep.
GO TO KILLORN KEEP.
1. After acquiring the scepter parts, return to Altara.
Killorn Keep Level 1 (Third Visit):
Return to Altara (16). Give her the items to make the Rod. You need to get the rod and take it to the Engine room (15) on level 2. To get to the Engine room (15), go to the Abandon Barracks on this level (12). Open the secret door (13). Go down the stairs to level 2.
Killorn Keep Level 2:
Kill the guard at the door. Open the door to the Engine room. Use the Altara wand in the center of the room. The ground should shake and the Guardian's presence is gone. Leave Killorn Keep. Enter the Southeast facet.
GO TO TALORUS.
Second Visit:
1. Banish the Guardian in the Bliy Skup Chamber.
Talorus Level 1:
Return to this world and go to the Bliy Skup Chamber (5). Use the Altara wand and banish the Guardian. Leave Talorus for good. Enter the Portal Gem in the North facet.
GO TO GOBLIN GUARD TOWER.
Second Visit:
1. Banish the Guardian from the level in Bishop's cell.
Goblin Guard Tower Level 8.
Return to level 8 of the Guard tower. Go into the room where Bishop was. Use the Altara wand in the room. The ground should shake and the Guardian's presence will be gone. Leave the Tower. You may want to have Nystul treat your gem and fuse it to the Portal Gem. Enter the gem on the South facet.
GO TO SCINTILLUS ACADEMY
Level Objectives:
1. Complete all levels of the test.
Level One:
Cluebook: Page 27
Open the gate on the right side. Place the gold box (found in that room) on the center pressure plate. Go through the passage and teleport away.
Level Two:
Cross the ice and the river. Head to area (5) and push the button. Go through the now unlocked gate at area (4). Continue to area (6) and cross the moving platforms. There is no trick to this, just wait for the next platform to come into view.
Level Three:
Grab the Wand of Telekinesis at the beginning of this level, you will need it! Jump to the first pillar to the North. Jump North again. Stand on that pillar (it will be shorter than the last one) and turn Southwest. Use your telekinesis wand and start clicking (use) on the Southwest wall. You should push a button (you don't have to see it to use it!). This will lower the pillar to the North.
Note: You may want to try a different light source to see the switch. Your best bet is to use the light spheres from Talorus.
Jump over to the pillar. Turn Southeast and start clicking on above the center pillar against the wall. Again, you should trigger a button that will raise the pillar you are on.
Jump to the exit.
Cool objects to find:
Wand of Telekinesis near entrance (this will disappear at the end of the level).
Level Four: Spatial Reasoning.
If you can cast fly, by all means fly. If not, maneuver to the Northwest tower and grab the key. Go to the southeast tower. Grab the key and head North. Go through the passage and open the two doors with the keys you just picked up.

Scroll of invisibility on the Northwest tower.
Level Five: Effects and Constraints
When you enter here turn left and get the pole. Continue West to the wall. Trigger each switch once with the pole. Do not step on the pressure plates in front of the switches! Enter the now open door to the South. Ignore the switch on the wall and jump across the gap. Get the key. Jump back across.
Note: You may want to jump down in the gap and get some cool items.
Go back and open the door to the South. DO NOT pull the chain on the wall. This will only create skeletons (good experience point builder-upper). Pick up the moonstone and use the key on the portcullis. Leave to level 6.

Moonstone found by the lever that creates the skeletons.
Level Six: Risk Avoidance.
Upon entering here you will find in the center of the room four Yellow Floor Tiles. Walk on all of these. They will each produce a friendly headless. Now grab the goodies in the center of the pillars. Use the key you collected on the locked door (14). You will come to an area that will have a brick floor. There are several teleporters here that will move you to different areas. The Blue squares will teleport you to different areas of this level. The Yellow squares will teleport you to the beginning of the realm! When you enter the brick area, turn right and then take the first left. Turn right again and head into the Blue square. This should teleport you to the Gray floor area. Follow the path and take the third right. When you get to the 'T' intersection, turn right and continue to the Blue square and enter this.
Note: There is a secret room in here. Just before you come to the 'T' intersection, take the first right. Bash the secret door and you will see a Potion of Time Freeze against the wall. You can cast telekinesis to get it, or run, jump, and grab. Go over to the switch and pull it. You will be boosted back up to the level. On your way up, you must be quick and trigger the other lever on the wall. This will allow you to continue on your way.
Now you should be in a wood floor area. Take the first left and left again. Enter the Blue square. Now you are in the Black floor area. Go right at the intersection. Now take the third right and enter the Blue square. In the Green floor area, turn left, ignore the passage to the west. At the intersection, turn left and continue East to the Blue square and enter it. Your now in the Brown Stone floor area. Turn left and walk East into the wall.
Cool objects to find:
Wand of Detect Trap in headless area (15).
Level Seven: Nonreversible Processes
Simple level! If your jumping skill is good that is! First thing is to jump down in the water and swim to the key located in a path in the North wall. Return back to the East and climb back on the ledge. Go back to the beginning of the level. You need to jump on the first pillar to the right. Jump to the next one (East), then turn North and jump there. Jump North again, and then turn to the West. Jump once. Turn North and Jump two pillars. You should now be against a wall. Turn to the East and jump three times. Turn South and jump twice. Turn East and open the locked door with the key you found. Exit this level.

Potion of Healing.
Level Eight:
Grab the runestone and walk into the sparkles. Walk into the South Central sparkles. Now walk to the South wall and walk into the sparkles in the West area. In the next area, walk into the sparkles on the North wall; far West side.
Note: It will help if you have your map out while walking through this level.
You should now be past the maze and in a living area. This is where the instructors of the Academy reside. This is where you need to get the blackrock gem and banish the Guardian. First grab the key behind the bed (34). Go to the Pentagram located at area 33. Grab the gem and use the Rod of Altara on the pentagram. You will then see the area shake. Time to head over to the vault (19). Use the key to unlock the door and continue into the moongate.

GO TO THE PITS OF CARNAGE.
First Visit:
1. Kill Dorstag and get the gem on level 1.
Level One:
When you enter the Pits of Carnage you will meet a man named Krilner the Coward. Talk with him and take the left passage. You will meet a warrior lady who will ask you to fight in the arena. Accept her challenge. Fighting warriors in the arenas are a good way to build respect in the Pits. A good way to make money it to visit Jospur (8). You can wager gold and fight up to five enemies at a time. Return and collect payment. Fighting in the Arena of Earth is the easiest. You need to visit with Dorstag (5). He has the gem. If your character is buff enough just slay him and take the gem. Beware! His guards will attack! Another option is to accept a challange in the pits and it's one on one. Don't forget to check the secret room behind his chamber (6). If you can't pick the lock or cast 'open', you can bash it down. When you get into this room, the crowd in the previous room will attack you if you have not already killed them. Go down to level 2.
Cool objects to find:
Scroll of Fireball in area (6) and area (7).
Level Two:
Your main objective here is to find Zoranthus the Mage. The 'open' spell will be handy for the locked portculli (23), or you can just push the second button you find and squeeze your way through. Outside of the door to Zoranthus's room will be a spell rune that will paralyze you. Throw an item at it. Just talk to Zoranthus and he will tell you about the Djinn-bottle. You need this. Find the Scepter of Deadly Seeker located in the Dream Realm.
Cool objects to find:
Jeweled Shield located in area (20).
Level Three:
You don't have to come down here, but you will find some cool items and meet a nice person. Talk to Blog the Troll (30). If you have a gray rock, play the game with him. In the Northwest area of the level you will come to a wood-Paneled room (31). There will be an arrow on the ground which you cannot pass. The way to reach the items on the other side is to use a pole on the switches beyond the portcullis. Another option is to cast telekinesis and then trigger the switch to open the portcullis. You will find a battle axe and scepter along with some gold. In the east area there will be a secret door to the Liche (29). The Liche will yield large amounts of magical items.
Cool objects to find:
Rune from Liche in area (29).
Leave the area.
Now you need to visit the Ethereal Void with the dream plant. Eat the dream plant you picked up from the Pits of Carnage and go to sleep. Hopefully, you will start dreaming in the Shrine of Spirituality. If not, restore your game or eat another dream plant and try again. The Shrine of Spirituality will be a enclosed area with glowing orange bars and a pedestal in the center. Look down into the pedestal and grab the blackrock gem. You cannot put this in your inventory yet. Throw it through the bars. You will exit the dream after a few moments.
Return to Britannia.
When you return, you will be greeted by Miranda and she will tell you to speak with Nelson. Go talk to him. Nelson and Patterson will be waiting. Speak to Nelson. He will try to explain something he found about the blackrock. Patterson will keep interrupting. Then Patterson will kill Nelson before he finishes what he was saying. You must then slay Patterson. After he dies, talk to the guard that comes in and tell him what happened.
GO TO THE TOMB OF PRAECOR LOTH.
1. Grab the blackrock gem on Level 1.
Level 1:
When you get to this level head south. There will be skeletons along the East and West wall (area 4). You will have to kill them to get the map. On the far South wall a piece of map is in a map case. Grab it and slay the skeletons. Use the map piece and scribe it to your automap.
Head north and take the West passage to area (5); the switch puzzle. Use the switches in this order:
Now all the switches should be down and you can open the door to the south by pushing the button on the wall next to the door. Grab the map piece and scribe it to you automap. Ignore the pull-chain in the room, it will only shut the door you entered.
Head out the way you came and take the left passage then turn North. Take the first left into area (6). Three Golems guard the map piece you need. Slay the Metal Golem and grab the map. Scribe the map to your automap.
Go back the way you came and head North again. Take the first passage to the left. In here are large boulders. Take your rock pick and turn them into pebbles. Grab the blackrock gem at the end of the tunnel. Now use the Altara wand. The ground should shake, and the Guardian will be banished from this level.
Head to area (1), or East from the passage you are in. There is a locked door here. There is nothing you need from behind the door. Turn to your right and locate the secret door that leads to area (1). Grab the map piece and scribe it to your map.
Now go South and then East to area (2). Kill the fire elemental. Grab the map piece and scribe it. You may want to grab the magical Breastplate here. Now is a good time to cast Walk on Water. Do so and take the water passage South. You will come to a room with three platforms. The southern-most platform contains a pressure plate that will open the portcullis on the ledge to the East. If you have problems opening this portcullis, jump up and cast 'Open' on it. Grab the map and scribe it. There is also a Longsword of Stone Strike here. Get out of this area and head North to area (8).
You will come to a room of friendly Dread Spiders. Ignore them and continue. Turn to the right passage and push the button (9) on the wall. Look behind you to find another map piece. Exit to level 2.
Cool items to find:
Jeweled Axe of Great Damage in area (7).
Level 2:
Not much on this level. To access area (11), cast portal against one of the adjacent walls. You will need to speak to Helena's ghost at area 10. Tell her you will help her out. Continue to level 3.
Cool items to find:
Jeweled Mace in Northern most area.
Level 3:
The first thing to do on this level is to speak with Silenus's ghost. Keep in mind: If you come to a door or gate that is locked, cast 'OPEN' on the door. Also, the 'FLY' and 'TELEKINESIS' spells will come in handy.
Cool items to find:
Leather Vest of Flameproof in area (13).
Level 4:
Open the gate and pull the chain on the wall twice. You can talk to Morphius (16) or just slay him (Either way you will have to kill him). Open the door to the South (18) with the key in the secret room (15) or just cast open. (There is nothing you need in the secret room). Dispel the FLAM runes by throwing an item through it. Kill Umbria (19). Take the East passage in the chamber and cast fly to get across the lava pit (20). Remove one of the candles at the trap and return back to Umbria's chamber (19). The passage to the South will now be open. Kill Lethe (25) and take the East passage. Kill all the creatures in this room (26) and grab the key. Use the key on the locked door to the East. Pull the chain. Return to Lethe's chamber (25) and go South through the now open double-doors. Walk straight across the invisible bridge and talk to Praecor Loth (27). Convince him he is dead. Get the horn from him and grab the goodies in the south chamber. You can return the banner to Ogre in Killorn Keep if you wish. Leave the Tomb and return to Britannia.

GO TO THE ETHEREAL VOID
Level Objectives:
First Visit:
1. Get the blackrock gem.
Cluebook: Pages 47, 48, 49, and 50
You entered this realm once before in a dream, now you can pick up item and put them into your inventory. Make your way to the large orange tower. Face into the tower wall and cast 'portal'. This will bring you by the base of the Shrine of Spirituality. The blackrock gem should be located on the ground somewhere (Remember? You were here before in a dream during the Pits of Carnage level!). Grab the gem and use the Altara wand on the ground. Portal out.
Now you need to find the scepter of Deadly Seeker for Zoranthus the mage. Go to the 'Red Zone' (see map on page 50 of the cluebook).
NOTE: A potion of flameproof would come in handy here.
The scepter is in area (13).
Head to the exit and return to the Pits of Carnage.
GO TO THE PITS OF CARNAGE
1. Return to Zoranthus the mage.

You can make this a quick trip. Go down to level 2 and give Zoranthus the scepter you picked up from the Ethereal Void. Get the Djinn Bottle and leave.

The people in the castle are ready to go on strike because of the way Lord British is treating them. DO NOT make Nanna mad. There is a problem in the game which will cause the servants to stay on strike forever; then the game is unwinnable. I believe this was fixed with a patch. Anyway, talk to Lord British and tell him he is being unfair to the people. Then go visit Nystul and let him treat the gem you found. AGAIN: Be sure to talk to EVERYONE in the castle each time you visit. They will provide you with valuable information and important items needed in the game. Go back to the Portal Gem on Britannia level 5. Use the blackrock gem on the Portal Gem. Enter the Northeast facet.
Killorn Keep (First Visit)

Important note: You should have the Altara wand before entering this realm. You will have to banish the Guardian's presence near the end. If you do not have the Rod, you will have to go back through all the levels again. Also, your mana will not regenerate on levels 2-7.

When you first enter this area you will see a floating TYM Rune in the center of the path. Use an item to throw at this. You are now safe to pass. You will then come to a locked door. There should be a button to the East. Use telekinesis to trigger this, then pass the door (remember: mana does regenerate on this level). Next is the water area. You may want to cast Walk on Water. Go over to area 22 and use the switch. This will unlock the door at area 23. You will then come to another locked door. Just run to the North. There will be illusionary black walls. Find the switch and use it. The door should now be unlocked. Jump down and walk through the moongate. If you have a resist fire potion, use it. Run to the West and open the door and kill the Imp. Use the lever in the room and go to the East. Now kill the Hordling and get the key. Now use the key to open the door at area 29. Now travel through the moongate. Head North and you will come to a passage that will turn to the West. Continue West through the illusionary wall. Open the chest and grab the loot. There is also a secret wall to the West in here. Look and use the floor and it will open to reveal more goodies. Head back the way you came and jump into the other moongate. This will bring you back to the pentagram room. You can then teleport back to the beginning of the Academy by going to area (18). Leave the Academy. Take the gem to Nystul and he will treat it. Fuse it with the Portal Gem. Enter the gem on the Southwest facet.
