Wing Commander II: Vengeance of the Kilrathi
Common Issues
"Error in WC2.EXE file!"
- With any error message that indicates a problem in the main executable for the game (i.e. WC2.EXE), you will probably want to re-install the game. Boot your system without using a boot disk. Reinstall the game from the original floppy disks or CD-ROM. Boot your system again with the boot disk or shortcut with our boot configuration above. Attempt to run the game again.
"Error code #13 or Error Code #16" (During Installation)
- If the installation program generates an error code #13 or an error code #16 while the game is installing to your hard drive, you may be in need of a replacement disk. The error is a result of problems detected by the installation program. Problems that the Install program detects are generally related to either the floppy disks or the CD-ROM that is being used to install. Check your CD-ROM for smudges, scratches or other marks and try installing the game again.
- Contact Origin Disk Exchange if the problem persists.
"User Error #1" (During Installation)
- This indicates that the Sound Card on your system is set up to use IRQ number 10. Unfortunately, the sound system in Wing Commander 2 does not support the use of IRQ 10.
In order to get the install program to function, you may have to choose NO sound and proceed. The IRQ for your sound card must be changed in order for sound to work in the game. If you can change your sound card to another available IRQ, try running the install program again. Choose your sound card from the list of supported cards and see if the install program can get past the error message. See our Sound Card Help Page for more information.
My game crashes when the Emperor says,"I will..." to Thrakath in the intro movie.
- At the beginning of the game, Wing Commander 2 attempts to play the digitized speech through your sound card. If he starts to speak, but then suddenly stops, one of these two things may be the cause:
- Your sound card IRQ may be set improperly. Most versions of Wing Commander 2 state that the "Manufacturer's default IRQ" for a Sound Blaster is 7. This is not always the case. Check to make sure that you have selected the IRQ that your sound card is using. See our Sound Card Help Page for more information.
- Some of the necessary initialization lines for your sound card might be missing. Check the boot disk CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT to ensure that all necessary device driver and initialization program lines are present. See our boot configuration for more information.
My Keyboard keeps locking up!
- The keyboard buffer (an area of memory on your system dedicated to handling keypressdata) may be full. Try 'Tapping' the keys instead of 'holding' them at length. Another possible solution may lie in the SO1.EXE patch. Download this patch program and apply it to the Wing Commmander 2 directory. It has been engineered to help solve the 'keyboard lockup' problem associated with Wing Commander 2.
