| BLACK: | Must use the exact lettering provided. |
| RED: | May need to be modified to reflect the wording in your C:\CONFIG.SYS or C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT, respectively. |
| GREEN: | Optional. These are not required to run the game. However you may like to have sound with your game, so leaving these out may not be helpful. |

Wing Commander I
Common Issues
Windows '95 users
- Wing Commander 1 requires that your system have certain MS-DOS files (left over from DOS version 3.0). It will probably report an error stating that it cannot find the file JOIN.EXE. Unfortunately, there is no way to add this file while running under Windows '95. You will need to do a MANUAL installation of the game (see below).
Manual Install
- To manually install the game to your hard drive (and to get past the "JOIN.EXE" problem for Windows '95 users), you must first be in MS-DOS.
- Change to your CD-ROM drive by typing the letter of the driver followed by a colon (eg. "D:")
- On the CD-ROM drive, type "CD\WING"
- From the D:\WING directory, type "XCOPY *.* C:\WING /E /S" to copy all files to your hard drive (about 18 megabytes, total).
- Change back to the C: drive and change directory to the C:\WING directory (type "CD\WING")
- While in the C:\WING directory type "EDIT WINGCMDR.CFG" and press enter.
- In the MS-DOS text editor that follows, type "V A904 Z" and then save the WINGCMDR.CFG file to your hard drive.
- Wing Commander 1 should now be ready to run!
MOSLO.EXE
- If you are using a high-end computer system to run Wing Commander 1, you may experience problems with the game's speed. Since it was designed to work with 286 and 386 machines, it will run extremely fast on high-end 486 and Pentium systems. Download the file MOSLO.EXE. MOSLO.EXE is a self-extracting archive that will expand into multiple files when executed. The file MOSLO.COM can be used to slow your computer down so that Wing Commander 1 will run at an acceptible speed.
"No JOIN.EXE, SUBST.EXE or APPEND.EXE files" or "Insert DOS data disk"
- If you do NOT have Windows 95 on your system, use the following steps. If you do use Windows 95, see NOTES section above.
- From the C:\ root directory, type "DELTREE C:\WING"
- Once the directory is deleted, type "EDIT JOIN.EXE"
- In the MS-DOS text editor screen, type "ORIGIN JOINFIX"
- "Save" the new JOIN.EXE file and "exit" the MS-DOS text editor.
- Reboot your system.
- Reinstall Wing Commander 1.
My game is running way too fast!
- You are in need of the MOSLO program. See the NOTES section above for more information about how MOSLO can be used to slow the speed of the game so that it is playable on your system.
There is no WC.EXE file on my hard drive after I install the game!
- The solution to this problem is to add the line "SHELL=C:\COMMAND.COM" to the CONFIG.SYS of the boot disk or shortcut that you are using to run the game. Once that line is in and the system is re-booted, try running the INSTALL program again. WC.EXE should end up in your C:\WING directory afterward.
My mouse moves across the screen by itself!
- If you do not have a 100% Microsoft compatible mouse driver, this problem will appear. Check the version and manufacturer trademark name of your mouse device driver when you start up your computer. If it is not a Microsoft mouse driver or if it is not a 100% Microsoft compatible mouse driver, you may be in need of getting an updated mouse driver for your system.
