Notes
Install
- After installing the CD version of the game, all of the files will be stored in a directory on your hard drive called C:\UNDEROM2. Saved games will be kept in their own directory within this folder.
Speech
- There is no speech in the introduction to Underworld II. Speech is only audible in certain "cut-scenes."
Exchange
- Should you find that one of your Underworld II disks is defective, you will need to replace the 'entire' game. Single disk replacement does not work in this case due to the variance in published versions.

Ultima Underworld II : Labrynth of Worlds
Common Issues
Error Messages
"A003"
- To solve this error message, you will most likely need to delete and reinstall the game. Your old saved games, unfortunately, will need to be deleted as well. The error indicates that the game data (including saves) could be corrupt. Make a boot disk according to the boot configuration listed at the top of this page and try installing and running the game a second time.
"A006" or "B001-B010" or "C001-C004"
- These error messages indicate that there is a problem with Ultima Underworld II's usage of high memory. Most likely, you do not have an EMS manager resident in memory. To get past these error messages, make a boot disk according to the specifications listed above, or use the Origin automatic boot disk maker for EMS memory.
"Bad Object List Error"
- This error happens due to two specific causes. The first cause is hording. If you have a large number of items (30 - 40 items total) in one location (one room, one bag, one pack), the game may corrupt their object attributes. You can continue to play the game without re-starting, but you may not be able to finish the game. Best solution is to re-start the game from scratch and make sure to keep much, much smaller groupings of items together.
- It is also possible to experience this error message after killing the liche on level 3 in the Pits of Carnage. Use a saved game created before you killed the liche... and don't kill the liche.
"D001-D024"
- Important data files used by Underworld II have become corrupted. Run SCANDISK and DEFRAG on your hard disk after deleting the Underworld II directory. Create a boot disk using either the automatic Origin boot disk maker or from scratch with the information listed above for the boot configuration. Boot your system with the boot disk and attempt to reinstall the game.
"E001"
- You do not have enough room on your hard drive to save a game. Nothing can be changed within Ultima Underworld II to solve this problem. You must make more free space on your hard drive by deleting unnecessary or unused files. Once enough space is created, you will be able to save your game without experiencing the error message.
"E002"
- There is not enough contiguous hard disk space for the data used by Underworld II. To solve this problem, delete unnecessary or unused files from your hard drive and try installing / playing the game again.
"Sound initialization failed"
- If your sound card is configured properly, this error message will indicate that Underworld II was not able to get enough EMS memory to make the game sounds play. To check to see if you have your sound card correctly configured see our Sound Card Help Page for more information. You will need to make a boot disk or Windows 95 shortcut to run the game. Use the boot configuration above.

General
"My screen turns completely red!"
- The patch program UW2PATCH.EXE was created to fix this specific problem. Download it and install it to the Underworld directory before you attempt playing the game again.
"The servants will not end the strike, and Nystall is too sick to warm the gem stones!"
- This is a problem that has been addressed by our UW2PATCH.EXE. Download and install the patch. Play from your latest saved game. The strike should end and Nystall should be able to do much more...
"Mors Gotha does not appear at the end of the game"
- Releasing the Air Demon in the wrong way can cause this. You must place the bottle in the center of the pentagram and you must be on the pentagram yourself, as well. Use your hand or your sword to attack the bottle. Do not throw it against the wall... or Mors Gotha will not appear.
