Notes

Configuration Help and Tips:

Memory Information
If you are having problems related to memory, be sure to check your system memory. To accomplish this, click on the APPLE icon, and then choose "About this Mac." The amount of RAM on the computer is listed under "Built-in Memory" while the amount of available memory is listed as "Largest Unused Block." Compare these values to the required values listed above.

Deleting and Reinstalling
If you need to delete the game, you will have to trash both the Super Wing Commander folder and the Super Wing Commander icon in the Prefs menu before attempting to re-install the game.

QuickTime 2.0 and PowerPC's
While running with music turned on, the frame rate may slow down. This problem is related to the information being handled by QuickTime 2.0. You may need to get a more recent version of this to speed things up on your machine.

Super Wing Commander for Macintosh
Common Issues

Error Messages

"Error Code -192"
This error indicates that you are using the wrong version of the game on the wrong system (i.e. PowerPC version on a 68K Mac, or vice-versa). Delete the game and reinstall. Look for any open windows that are unnecessary, and shut them down. Make sure only the necessary extensions and control panels are active.
"Not enough memory for full sound, music will be turned off..."
In the preferences for Super Wing Commander, set up the Minimum at 4500K for 68K Macs or 4000K for PowerPC's. Delete the game (as well as the preferences for the game) and reinstall.
"...Open MovieFile Faild in MovieDisplay}..."
Try setting Minimum and Preferred memory preferences to 5000K each. Delete the game and all preferences for the game... reinstall and try running the game again.

General

"There is blocked text, or transparent text inside the cockpit!"
Check your control panels and extensions manager for ADOBE Type Manager. If this is active, disable it and try running the game again. Make sure to check for any unnecessary Extensions. If any extensions other than the ones listed at the top of this page are still active, deactivate them before trying to run the game again.
"It's locking up at a black screen!!"
This could be related to having a Kingston Turbo mouse on your system. Try downloading one of the patches listed above to solve this problem.

Sound

"My speech is skipping!"
Make sure that Virtual Memory is turned OFF in the Memory Control Panel. Also, make sure to disable both AppleTalk (in the Chooser) and File Sharing. You may need to delete and reinstall the game if turning these options OFF does not help. Check your version of Quick Time, as well. Make sure that it is the latest available.
"There is no music and/or Sound effects!"
Click on the Options Menu at the top of the screen. Make sure that both music and Sound effects are turned ON and that the appropriate volume levels are set. If they are, but you still cannot hear music, disable all unnecessary extensions and ensure that your memory is set between 4000 and 4500K.
"The music quality is really bad!"
Check your Extensions Folder (not the Extensions Manager) for QuickTime Musical instruments. If it is not loading, you will need to use the Extensions Manager to load it. Without QuickTime Musical Instruments, the quaility of music can be very low.
