Configuration Help and Tips:
Memory Information
- If you are having problems related to memory, be sure to check your system memory. To accomplish this, click on the APPLE icon, and then choose "About this Mac." The amount of RAM on the computer is listed under "Built-in Memory" while the amount of available memory is listed as "Largest Unused Block." Compare these values to the required values listed above.
Deleting and Reinstalling
- If you need to delete the game, you will have to trash both the System Shock folder and the System Shock icon in the Prefs menu before attempting to re-install the game.
QuickTime 2.0 and PowerPC's
- While running with music turned on, the frame rate may slow down. This problem is related to the information being handled by QuickTime 2.0. You may need to get a more recent version of this to speed things up on your machine.
6100 Machines
- Even though the game will run on any PowerPC, the 6100 series is not supported due to the very slow frame rates experienced during testing. If you turn the resolution of the game graphics down as far as possible, turn off the music and use "line skipping," you may achieve a playable frame rate on a 6100. For reliable play on a 6100, you will also need more than 8MB of built-in RAM.
Joystick Support
- There is not joystick support within System Shock for the Mac. You can set up your joystick, but it is not supported with full functionality. Please use a mouse or your keyboard to control the game.

System Shock for Macintosh
Common Issues
Error Messages
"Error Code -192"
- This error will appear if you do not have a PowerPC. System Shock for the Macintosh will only run on a PowerPC. The game will install properly on machines that are not PowerPC's, but it will not run. Error Code -192 cannot be solved via software. Contact Origin Disk Exchange for more information.

General
"I'm getting random lockups!"
- Lockups are almost always related to music. Turn off the music completely and try running the game again. If this does not solve the problem, delete the System Shock icon and the System Shock properties. Defragment your hard drive and re-install the game. Make sure that you have only the necessary extensions and control panels active when you try to play the game again.
"My game is really slow and it's pausing during gameplay!"
- Turn OFF Virtual Memory in the Memory Control Panel. Turn off all unnecessary extensions and Control Panels. Set the Disk Cache to 256K in the Memory Control Panel. If none of this works, delete System Shock and the System Shock properties. Reinstall the game after defragmenting your hard drive. Turn off the music in the game and lower the graphics resolution.
