General

Rolling on some teleporters causes teleporting back and forth in an endless loop, lock ups, kicking you to DOS, or other weird things.
  1. Reload a Previous Savegame.
  2. Exit out of the game, and then re-run it.
The gun only shoots one shot and then stops firing.
  1. You are probably using QEMM (Quarterdeck Extended Memory Manager). If you are, make a Boot Disk or Shortcut and remove it. See the Boot Configuration for more information.
  2. Make sure you are using a 100% compatible Microsoft mouse driver.
The system locks at a black screen after trying to run the game.
Usually occurrs when HIMEM.SYS is not loaded. See the Boot Configuration for more information.
Crash to DOS when trying to do a Quickload of a saved game.
FILES in the CONFIG.SYS are set too low. Increase the amount of files. See the Boot Configuration for more information.

Controller

My mouse will only move in the upper left quarter of the screen.
You need either a Microsoft, Logitech, or 100% compatible mouse driver. You can run Crusader without a mouse.

Sound

How do I get the game to recognize my Gravis UltraSound?
Copy the following file from the CD to the directory where you installed the game:
  1. COPY D:\GOODS\GRAVIS\ASYLUM.DLL C:\REGRET
  2. Then return the C:\REGRET directory and type in: INSTALL -GRAVIS.
This will allow you to setup the Gravis Ultra Sound for native sound.
NOTE: Make sure that you return to the root directory of your CD-ROM drive, otherwise the game might return an error message!
I have a Gravis UltraSound and my sound keeps pausing
For any GUS card we require a minumum of 512K RAM on the card. Anything lower may cause pausing in the game.
I have no sound in the game
Your sound volume on the card may have lowered when you selected the high DMA channel. You can correct this by turning up the volume manually in the sound card's software program or by physically changing it on the hardware itself. See our Sound Card Help Page for more information.
How do I change music during a mission?
Hitting CTRL-M in the game changes the music played during a mission.

CD-ROM

I get a number of random errors when Crusader is installing or playing.
Update CD-ROM drivers. These problems are very prevalent with TEAC x4 (CD-55A) driver version 1.09. Version 1.18k seemed to solve all the problems.
I'm getting errors reading the CD
If the CD is smudged, simply clean it off as you would an audio CD. If it continues to give errors, contact Tech Support for a replacement.
I'm getting long pauses in gameplay / skipping in movies
This is caused by the speed of the CD-ROM drive. No other fix is available other than upgrading the CD-ROM to a faster one.

Video

Video is not playing at all. Sometimes the video stops playing.
  1. Edit the CRUSADER.CFG and add lowresmovies=true
  2. If this happens, try re-install. You can copy the save games out to a tempory directory and then back after you re-install.
  3. Check to be sure they ahve an updated VESA driver or UNIVBE.EXE.

Gameplay

Why can't I open a door using the correct keycard when the alarm is on?
You must turn off the alarm by using a wall alarm switch (glowing red box) and then you can use the keycard or keypad.
How do I control the Spider Bombs?
When you use a Spider Bomb, the Crusader will kneel and release it. From this point, rotate the Crusader left or right to turn the Spider Bomb in the corresponding direction. It will move forward on its own. NOTE: If the CAPS LOCK or SHIFT key is down, the Crusader will rotate faster as will the Spider Bomb.
The Silencer has walked off the screen and I can barely see him.
Press Z to center the screen on the Silencer.
