Color Code:
BLACK: Must use the exact lettering provided.
RED: May need to be modified to reflect the wording in your C:\CONFIG.SYS or C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT, respectively.
GREEN: Optional. These are not required to run the game. However you may like to have sound with your game, so leaving these out may not be helpful.
[ITALICIZED]: Comments only and are not to be entered exactly.

Notes

Installing
After you have finished selecting the installation options, you must type I to install the game.
General Midi Cards
General Midi cards MUST be run with a digital sound effects card. They are not supported as stand alone cards for music.
Sound Cards
You must have a SET BLASTER line in the AUTOEXEC.BAT or the intro will not play. See the Boot Configuration.
If you set up a Digital F/X card, the General MIDI is automatically set up as well. It is not possible to have Digital F/X and No Music (for SB cards it will use FM General MIDI emulation).
Sound Card Auto-Detection
The sound card auto-detection feature will not work until you have selected a sound card. The General MIDI I/O address in NOT auto-detected, only the digital settings are detected.
Video Modes
There are 3 video options. This must be before during installation. To change this setting after installing, you must completely delete by typing DELTREE C:\CM from the C:\ prompt and re-install the entire game.
  1. VGA 320x240 with Lo-Res animations (8 MB RAM required)
  2. VGA 320x240 with Hi-Res animations (16 MB)RAM required
  3. SVGA 640x480 with Hi-Res animations (16 MB RAM required)
Keyboard Re-mapping
To return the keyboard to the default settings, go to the Keyboard Re-mapping screen, and hit Ctrl-R.
Keyboard Controls Help Screen
To get to the hot key help screen, hit either "/" or "?".
Downloadable Demo Version
The downloaded demo can only run in VGA. There is an enhanced SVGA version in CMSVGA.ZIP, which will upgrade the demo. The demo must be unzipped, self-extracted, executed, then installed to function. This will leave you with 3 copies of the compressed information on the hard drive, ~9.5 MB each. The download must also have 2 separate directories to function correctly. If they copy all of the files into 1 directory, it will not work. The default directories are C:\CM and C:\CMDEMO.
Demo Version Options Menu
There is no Options menu in the game. It will do nothing when you click on it.

Controller

Cannot type in a name in the savegame slots (keyboard doesn't seem to register)
This occurs if the keyboard has been re-mapped. You need to reset the keyboard to default settings by hitting CTRL-R.
I'm spinning in circles, or running forwards or backwards without touching the keyboard at all.
The game will occasionally experience a sticky key. You can either hit the left shift key, or the key that seems to be stuck (i.e. the up arrow if you are running forward)
My character is running around and shooting without me doing anything.
The best way to solve this is to hit the ESCkey, and then quickly hit the Q key to quit. If you are not quick enough, the game will automatically select one of the other options. If this continues to happen, try using a different mouse driver or just using the keyboard. You will need a Microsoft mouse driver version 9.01 or higher. Version 8.02A or older Logitech drivers can cause this problem.
I'm using the joystick, and I can't use the W and X on the keyboard to control my height.
To control your height you must use the joystick. Do this by holding down the second joystick button and pulling back to ascend, and pushing forward to descend.
