Color Code:
BLACK: Must use the exact lettering provided.
RED: May need to be modified to reflect the wording in your C:\CONFIG.SYS or C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT, respectively.
GREEN: Optional. These are not required to run the game. However you may like to have sound with your game, so leaving these out may not be helpful.
[ITALICIZED]: Comments only and are not to be entered exactly.

Notes

Music
There is no digital music in the game, only Midi music.
Map Editor
There is a level editor that comes with the game. Origin is able to support this editor as far as telling you how to get it running. After that, you need to check the documentation. To get into the editor, in the C:\ABUSE directory type ABUSE -edit. Be sure that "edit" is in lower case. They are able edit the levels that come with the game. OBSERVE CAUTION: This may make the levels unsolvable.
Net Play
Net play is through Win95 only, and requires the commercial version (v2.00). There is also a higher system requirement for Net play. Please check your documentation for this. DOS network play is, however, not supported.

Controllers

My right mouse button doesn't activate my special powers.
You must use a 100% compatible Microsoft mouse driver.

Modem / Network

How do I play over a modem?
Abuse does not support modem play.
System lockups when trying to start a net game.
  1. Make sure that each person enters the game one at a time.
  2. Make sure that no one has music turned on.

Sound

No Midi music but I have a Midi card.
Your Midi card probably uses software based Midi emulation and is not hardware wired to be MPU-401 compliant. Contact your manufacturer for more details.

Video

How do I change screen resolution in the commercial version?
This option was removed for the released commercial version. We did not want to reveal so much of the levels as to make them less fun to play.
