WC:CD (Arrow)

Well I figured I'd start a new thread (As if there's not enough in here).

Here's a few screenshots of the Arrow I've been working on 1 render and 2 vision shots....Leave some comments. Texture coordinates still need to be moved around a bit (I've been having trouble in this area). But you get to see the progress.

Well I've revisted the Arrow Model and noticed It needed some big changes (Texture, Alignment). The newer model doesn't have any gun mounts on it yet but....they'll get there.....Also check out the Updated Rapier "Blade" That I got into, belting out something better. Check to the end of this thread http://www.crius.net/zone/showthread.php?t=23106 and you'll find the updated Rapier "Blade"

I've been thinking on a color scheme to use for one of the "Arrow" fighter groups that is in the WC:CD mod and I can't really think of which color would be a little different ...below I've included Blue, Yellow,Red, and Green.. (Not necessarily in that order but you get the point) Give me some feed back.. I've thinking of a few squadron names also like (Roughnecks,Shadows,Hunters,Condors, etc. ..) This is mainly used as a recon/patrol craft so keep that in mind if you guys have any other cool names. And tell me what colors too

I've always liked the idea of different colors for different battle groups, but I'm not sure if that's how the Wing Commander Universe is set up. I always imagined the reason for WC1 colors being green and WC3 being blue might be because of the different task forces. I also used that to explain why a green arrow pops up again in WC4 when most confed colors are blue.

I think coherence with the WC Universe is the most important thing.. but assuming that's how things are done, I like the idea of new colors for the battle group/squadron/or however the WC Universe splits the color scheme.. so in that sense I like the yellow and orange colors best. I prefer the orange except that the Kilrathi colors are usually red and orange. The orange looks brown, so maybe you could make it brown instead? What about black or a color combo like black and gold or silver?

I've always liked the name "Rocket Riders" for a squadron. I could envision their insignia as being a cowboy riding on a rocket. I always imagined this as more of an elite squadron name that might be flying Vampires or other such superfighters. Since the Arrows are often recon fighters and are so nimble; perhaps the squadron could be called "The Untouchables". Other than that you could get inspiration from actual historical squadrons. Here's a site with US Naval Squadron names as of 1968: http://www.bluejacket.com/usn_squadron_names_1968.html Some of those names are recognizable as Wing Commander squadron names (Diamondbacks and Vampires). I think "Sluggers" from that list would be an awesome bomber squadron name (lots of fiction/story potential with frustrated pilots that escort the slow bombers calling them 'Sluggards' behind their back). Some that I like from that list that could be good Arrow Squadron names are the "Ghostriders" and the "Watchdogs".

That works, that's cool that you're changing things up a bit. Another name I just thought of is "Star Streak" squadron which is the name I had for my soap box derby race car back when I was around six or seven.. not that it's necessarily better than the others, but it just popped in my head and might be a cool squadron name. There might be some fiction potential involving how they got their name from the synonym 'streaking'... maybe they lost a bet or something.

Thanks Jason. Is anyone handling the story/script of your game (maybe that's you)? I'd be interested in helping out with the fiction aspects of the game. I'm not sure I'm up for leading the story team, but I'd be willing to co-author and help out the primary author. I would also enjoy helping to come up with fun missions. I'd suggest reading a few fanfics on the fanfics section and deciding which authors you like. I wrote one called "Jaws of the Lion" linked here: http://http://www.crius.net/zone/showthread.php?t=21603&highlight=Jaws... so that would be my resume

Well at the moment. The Collateral Damage Story is mainly themed around a dark time between the end of Secret Ops and the Beginning of WC Arena, (Hence all the fighters that you see are based of reproductions of the models you see in Arena). I've developed a plot synopsis which includes where I think the project should go. Based on information that is in the WC Arena manual & the never materialized Privateer 3 (I think) including pilot names, ships names, big battles, technology , etc... and how I think that the battles turn out. So with that being said, If I could actually get some feedback on what people think happened after the Secret Ops, including what you think may be a good strategy to attract people to the Mod.
Be creative!!! I've been pretty creative so far with the story, But I haven't gotten in depth with conversations and stuff like that. So although a plot/storyline has been laid out, there is no script as of yet. So if anyone has ideas, by all means throw in some cool information!! I've come up with dates, characters, ships, different happenings within the universe, and also some of which things that inevitably have to be made up if there's information missing somewheres.
But ultimately another member of the CIC community and myself have been the working on the project thus since late november , in which he's given me alot of information of backgrounds, dates, etc.. But I really need to get a website up of some sort to get people turned on so to speak to the Collateral Damage mod. So far the modeling is more or less getting to a point where I'm going to need some testers and even modders that know the vision engine. It's hard to convert the ships to IFF and then do all the things that have to be changed to the ships...IE: engine placement, gun placement, cockpit placement, weapon loadouts, etc... when there's about 12-15 different ships....I like doing the modeling it's just a painstaking task.
If there are people that would like to further develop Characters and even think of different (Non-lucrative) ways to have certain events go, then by all means email me or send me Private messege or whatever. Post it up here if you'd like. So to answer your question. I'll post up some information within the next couple of days on the synopsis and some characters that's I've been developing.

Oh BTW if you check out the front nose of the underside of the fighter, there's a grey area that looks almost like the "peace sign" it was Premeditated

I can work on that for you, if you like. I'm not sure if the CIC still requires websites to be built before letting them use hosting on the CIC Server, but I can set up a website/layout for you and host you until they approve you for hosting if you like.

This is giving me some trouble with the new model and getting it into the Vision engine. Mainly after I convert it into a PEO and try to use "PEOview" when trying to load the Arrow.peo I made it gives an exeption error so I'm trying to work around that...any thoughts as to why it gives the error and doesn't want to load?
