UPDATE: GameTap Adds Blueprints! (April 9, 2007)

Here's a quick update to report that GameTap has added the original Wing Commander blueprints to their supplemental materials for the game. You can download them here in PDF format. It's very impressive that they were able to do this so quickly... and during a holiday weekend, no less! It sounds like they are very interested in watching out for our best interests -- and that's a good feeling! What's more, all four blueprints are included, rather than just the one or two needed to bypass the copy protection.

I imagine that producing the resources wouldn't be that time consuming for them, especially when it seems they're just tacking their GameTap logos on to existing resources. I'm very sure the Claw Marks manual was copied from TC's on-line rendition, right down to the spelling mistakes!

Edit: Specifically, "Lean these tactivs..." on page 10 and "Tanaka Marike" on page 29.

It isn't so much that it's difficult to generate this kind of content (after all, that's what we're here for)... it's that no one takes the time to do it anymore. How hard would it be, for example, for EA to tell Peter Telep its okay to release Pilgrim Truth?

It's a matter of caring about the games and the fans enough to go a small extra mile, which we're finally seeing again after eight years.

I have the Scimitar/Rapier blueprint in my room. I hang it on the Scimitar side though cause it's always been of my favorite ships and doesn't get as much attention as the Rapier. I love its brown/orange cockpit too.
