Clear Flight Deck For Combat Launching Sequence (January 28, 2007)

Klavs81 has returned with a breathtaking shot of the TCS Tarawa flight deck. His familiar Rapier, Ferret and Sabre fighters are back, and this scene shows them in the middle of action-packed flight ops aboard a cramped Light Escort Carrier. The individual craft and flight deck have been newly rendered, and the detailed effects were carefully added to the image in Photoshop.

Wow, simply breathtaking! Any chance of larger or widescreen versions for wallpapers?

Glad everybody enjoys!

Pete wins! It's a quote from Lyford Beverage, the Tarawa's flight deck officer.

I knew that!

Beverage appears again in Fleet Action, albeit in a slightly different capacity.

Mmmm... Lyford Beverage...

That is probably the best single piece of Wing Commander art I have ever seen.

The only recommendation I would have is to put the human figures in action, laboring with missiles or fuel lines, or simply running to give it all a sense of urgency.

When LeHah interviewed Forstchen a few years back, he explained that Lyford Beverage was actually the name of a friend of his, unbelieveably enough.

Yup, and a quick Google search confirms that Mr. Beverage is a real person -- here's his blog, LyfLines: http://lyflines.blogspot.com/

There's another name that gets shared between two characters in End Run and Fleet Action -- Noragami is both a rookie pilot on the Tarawa and the Admiral in charge of the Navy and the JCS.

(The Lyford Beverage in Fleet Action was commander of the First Cruiser Squadron.)

Awesome image! I love it! Looks fantastic, shouts wing commander but reminds me a little of the new BSG show.

Actually, that interview was 90% LOAF. I just happened to have the good fortune of Dr Forstchen replying to my email.
