Even Confed outsources labor to the third world

I happened to be doing an unrelated project with a buddy who has contacts in the printing industry, and an old idea occurred to me when I found out that they do garment labels for clothing manufacturers.

What I've got here is a little finishing touch that I added to my trusty old Eisen cap by removing the "Made in Thailand" tag and sewing this one in. Now anyone looking inside my hat will know that it was put together by underage workers in some sweatshop on Hell Hole.

They were cool enough to make me up a batch of 50+ fabric labels, which leaves a lot left over - so anyone who wants any for hats, flightsuits, etc. can PM me with your address and how many you can use, and I'll send them out no charge. (in the U.S.)

And please forgive my crappy cameraphone pictures.

That's neat, I'd like one.

That said, wouldn't the Landreich be part of the Wing Commander Universe's equivalent of the First World, being allied with the Confederation against the Kilrathi?

I always figured the Landreich to be more akin to a developing nation - limited resources, isolated, and with a makeshift military thrown together with whatever they can get their hands on. They're allied with the Confederation out of necessity, but they're certainly not friends. A bit like how, say, Pakistan is allied with the U.S.

It was supposed to be the European communist block. but that does not exist anymore. The whole 1st/2nd/3rd world terminology is really outdated nowadays... it's all about developed (rich), developing (not-rich) and underdeveloped (poor) countries now.

Brazil was allied with the Western Allies in both World Wars, which is more important. We were not allied with the US for most of the Cold War. In fact, the US wound't sell us certain weapons (F-16s, or even 20mm Vulcan cannons) precisely for that reason. Regardless, I agree with your point. I'm not sure about the economic conditions of the Landreich. It appears to me that the closest thing on WCU to a third world nation would be the Border Worlds, at least in military terms.

There's no such thing anymore. It used to be the socialist nations. Anyway, now the division is between "developed" and "developing" countries.

Isn't it just another term meaning just the same? With some countries shuffling from that cathegory to another sometimes.

No, the terms aren't the same -- that's the issue here. The "first/second/third" world refers to the NATO countries, the Communist bloc and the unaligned nations (respectively) -- it doesn't define whether or not a country is rich or poor.

Yeah, it's an outdated classification from the Cold War.

No problem, glad to be able to contribute a little something, but I need an address or two. Is there a general CIC mailing address or something that I'm missing?

So when France quit NATO it became a third world nation? That's good to hear. I'm not sure on how, but the terms ended up more or less interchangebale with developed/developing (or underdevoped on some sources).

The year was 1966. That link is a snapshot. You need a timeline.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/eur...es/1543000.stm

For example, Spain joined in 1982.

France did not ever quit NATO. It withdrew from NATO's military structure, but that's not the same thing.
