Kane's Back -- With Friends (October 19, 2006)

Electronic Arts has some exciting news -- Full Motion Video is back, in a big way! Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars won't just feature the return of Kane... it will feature the return of the big-budget Hollywood cutscene! From their press release:
Quote:
Electronic Arts today announced that the highly-anticipated Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars™ (C&C 3) game will feature an all-star celebrity line-up for its high-definition, live action video sequences from critically-acclaimed television series such as "LOST" and "Battlestar Galactica," blockbuster films such as Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi (1980, 1983), Top Gun (1986), Starship Troopers (1997), and The Wedding Crashers (2005), and a former Miss USA pageant winner. The unparalleled, diverse cast includes Tricia Helfer, Josh Holloway, Michael Ironside, Billy Dee Williams, Grace Park, Ivana Bozilovic, Shauntay Hinton, and more!
Several news sites' takes on the announcent, naturally mentioned Wing Commander: GameSpot and PALGN mention the series as an example of that great bygone FMV era... and GameDaily says that "[C&C3] is one of the largest, most well known casts to act live-action in the history of games, rivaling that of the Wing Commander series." We're not sure about that... but it's great to see anyone investing in live action again -- and even greater to have it be Electronic Arts! A new Wing Commander doesn't seem so impossible now.

No Kari Wuhrer this time unfortunately. But it seems the cast won't be lacking on that department.

Apart from Kucan himself and the fat General guy who i've seen on television before, the list only has one other recognisable name. Micheal Ironside of Splinter Cell fame and the Paul Verhoven films Total Recall and Starship Troopers.

You don't know Billy Dee Williams? (Lando from Star Wars).

Tricia Helfer and Grace Park are the female leads from Super Neon BattleStar Galactica, which a lot of people seem to like.

This is very cool!

But I do think this is very funny .. "and a former Miss USA pageant winner"

This is like Wing Commander which had Malcolm McDowel, John Rhys Davis, Tom Wilson, Mark Hamil and Ginger Lynn Allen... porn star.

Correct if I'm wrong, but wasn't Micheal Ironside in Starship Troopers as well.

Ironside has been in a whole mess of B movies, all of which the sufficiently curious can look up on IMDb.

This is awesome. They managed to pry Kucan away from his hand-gliding and fencing to play Kane again, since no one else can legitimately play Kane. Only Kucan is evil-looking enough. My only real disappointment is that they didn't get Frank Klepacki to do the music, that guy is a genius.

Agreed, but I heard that EA been putting some effort in the music department and promise 'not to disappoint'. Btw, does anyone have any luck accessing Frank's website?

It was down for a little while, but it's back up. The C&C tracks are amazing!

Klepacki did some fantastic work with Westwood. I hope they do a really good job with the music.

Ah, dude, the guy is one year older than me. If Wikipedia is correct, he did his first game music in 1990 at age 16. Quite amazing. And for what I remember the music of Dragonstrike is pretty good.

His site is at http://www.frankklepacki.com/
I highly recommend his work, I loved listening to the C&C music growing up. Hell March remains the best music from a game ever. You can listen to all his music at the bottom of the site.

Yeah who doesn't love launching a tank offensive to the sounds of "Hellmarch" in RA? Ahh the sounds of conquest....

I almost love that more than my favorite band! That's one of the best music sequences I've ever seen!

I hope that the gameplay is as good as the cast list
they have some pretty tough competition, and would definitely like to see C&C 3 become a big hit! With Company of Heroes, Supreme Commander (AKA Total Annihilation 2) and the whole Dawn of War family, it seems that RTS games are the top dogs in PC gaming yet again.

Now all we need, after C&C 3, is Starcraft2.

At least Bungie used to make good RTS games in the past. Let us hope that they can make a good console one.
