Gemini Gold's New Galaxy Shaping Up (October 30, 2005)

The Gemini Gold team is currently working with Lathan Stanley to texture BradMick's Galaxy. The goal was to bring the ship's textures more in line with the original Privateer's style. You can check out a video clip of the current design here. They've added some nice details and are anxious to release the upgraded ship with the pending Gemini Gold 1.01. Comments and welcome.

I don't understand the symbols/markings.

Isn't yellow and black used to warn of physical dangers (http://www.harrisind.com/hzt.htm)? If so, what are the physical dangers that are being warned of?

I couldn't find a triangle with a c in it. I looked at www.symbols.com , what does it stand for?

Should the engine exhausts be painted?

I don't know if ISO pictograms are used in the future. You may want to look at signs llike these http://www.panduit.com/products/Prod...414&ig_id=1121

Spacecraft engines in Wing Commander are powered by nuclear fusion, so I would think that that would count as a hazard.

while i think its really great, i feel that to better capture the look that GG is going for, the textures should be simplified a bit more. Also, it would look a bit out of place within the GG visual context as well. The overlay panel map that was used i have to say isn't the best route to go. For the ships of privateer a more hand drawn panel map is the better way to go. the triangle symbols are a bit odd as well. The caution tape is great. I'd also avoid putting in any kind of embossed damage painting as well, it tends to look a bit off without a bump map to support it. if the artist were to hand draw the panel lines and then use the drop shadow and edge glow layer effects in photoshop (or gimp if gimp has it) to get the look of the privateer textures. it takes a bit of tweaking, but turns out looking really great.

just my suggestions so that it'll fit in better with the GG look overall.

I think BradMick is right, I'm sorry to say. The simple fact is; your texture is so well done that the galaxy would take away a LOT of attention from the other ships. I don't know how long it took you to do it but that is some damn nice texturing! Makes me wonder what a talent like you could do with the Orion or the Trasus...
