Wing Commander Free on YouTube (February 9, 2025)

Long Live the Confederation!
Here's a little treat from the universe: YouTube has the 1999 Wing Commander movie available to watch for free (in the United States, at least)! YouTube's rules prevent commercial movies from being embedded but you can follow this link to watch the movie. As a bonus, making the movie available on YouTube means that lots of people are seeing it for the first time... and if their social media comments are any indication, they aren't hating it! Weird what a couple decades an do to a film.

This is a legitimate licensed stream rather than somebody pitching up the sound and playing it under a filter... it's the real Wing Commander experience! We don't know how long Wing Commander will be available but past availability suggests that you should have at least all of February to catch it. A big thank you to Sebastian for letting us know!

Wasn't the film always fairly popular among the general public? To the extent that the "general public" even knew that it existed? That was the impression I got when the subject came up in conversation (once).
I guess that's the consequence of making a niche film and targeting it towards the most demanding audience possible. But I wonder if it would have done better today with the current trendiness of niche subjects. Something to think about.

Not particularly! It only made back a quarter of its budget and has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 10%. But there's definitely a new nostalgic filter to it these days, especially with regards to... Matthew Lillard?

Not a fan of the movie at all but I've always liked Matthew Lillard as an actor and thought he should have been bigger than he was. I saw him in a punk rock movie years ago, i can't remember the name of it, but he was quite good in it.

Lillard was great in Hackers as well
