Wing Commander 4 demo!

I tried the demo, the one with the teaser, and I must say......I've never seen FMV like that in my life so real. The bar scene especially really.....really......looked real. It's like I was looking at an upcoming episode of babylon 5! It also looked very much voilent from Prophercy.......the part where the guy get's shot in the head.
I've no idea why I missed this one. It made Prophercy look so small and so cheesy! And what the hell is Mark Darcoss(Crying Freeman, Drive) is doing there?! Please tell there's no kung-fu scenes in it!

Given the chance I would buy WC4 along with the Kilarthi Saga. I know you heard me saying this a few times but I really mean it this time.

One more thing the links for all the demos have been changed.
You can check them out here:
The link for WC3 and WC4!

Simply superb!

I'm glad you liked the demo.

If I had the chance I would by WC IV for the PC, I've got it and WC III for the Playstation

ya, good move... WC4 is one of my favorites... its the best WC story by far... entertaining to the last, i was moved at the end... many hollywood movies couldnt do this to me... the directing/acting in wc is class..

i will chase a copy for myself too !

cheers

Maybe you felt involved because the choices were in your hand! I wonder if WC3 had that kind of effect. By the way does blair say any four letter word. He did say 'SOB' in the trailer!

true , i mean i just finished wcp, and the difference in storyline... well... i think thats what's resposible for my wc4 rantings... the blandness aand linear nature of wcp vs. so many things / issues going on there in the border worlds.. awesome as a stand alone movie methinks, with all the twists and turns u didnt expect - the fact u had a hand in it, and played a decent game made it no.1.

cheers

Does anyone know where I can get WC4 for PC in an original box?!
I wanted to get it in StarVector but it's way to expensive, why charge so much?

Howdy! You can almost always find a nice copy on eBay for very cheap...

(Incidentally, if you have a Hollywood+ DVD decoder card, you should try the DVD version of WCIV instead of the CD-ROM... the video sequences are amazing!)

WC3 had the same 'two choice' FMV dealy.

No kung-fu. I think this was before he decided he was a martial arts superstar... he plays a super-sappy cadet character.

Since no one's pointed it out yet, there's a nifty easter egg in the demo -- target the Marine transport ('Dekker') that's flying around when you take off. After about 20 seconds it'll drop an object... run into the object and you'll have a Stormfire gun added to your ship!

Double post I know.........

The publisher had been Daylight Productions. They did limit the game to that specific hardware as it had been the only one to be capable to play back the movies past then. In theory they used a standard (MCI calls). Mark Day (from said corp) said that they had it running with the Zoran DVD player (a software player) as well.

Any truth to the above statement?!

The history behind that statement is true... Daylight developed WCIVDVD to work with Creative's DXR2 DVD kit (they were bundled together). There was no real standard for PC DVD at the time, so they couldn't design it in that way. :)

The 'Creative' DVD is the one that's commonly available, although I remember hearing it mentioned that versions had been made for other hardware DVDs of the time. I don't think any of these were ever released.

As for the software player, as far as I know no one has been able to make it work... you can certainly *view* the movies with a software player (and its worth it just for that feature), but the game doesn't call them up properly.

Your best bet is to purchase a cheap Hollywood+ decoder card (if you've got a free PCI slot). I think I got one for my WCPC for about $20.

Is Daylight still in business!?
Do they have a website?!

Yes, but they don't have anything to do with DVD conversion stuff anymore... and Mark Day doesn't work there anymore.

What's WCPC, a PC dedicated to WC games?

Yup. Been building a computer specifically to play Wing Commander games. It has five sound cards.

Is five soundcards really necessary? I found my WCPC in my basement about a week ago. It still has every WC game prior to WC3 on it. When I found it I thought I was in heaven.

Some would argue that a WCPC is in and of itself unncessary. :) But if you're going to have one, five soundcards is the way to go!
