Whats left of Origin

DarkRaptor

Spaceman
Just as the topic says anyone know if there are any other teams left at osi besides teams for uo. I know the uo2 team got canned.
I belive its name now is ea austin now all the 3rd parts dev's ea owned are that way now though. Just wondering if anyone else has some better insight on whats going on there.

I don't know much about what's up with origin. But if what you say is true, then what sad, dark times we live in :(

Not really.. We've known all that since 2000. We're the ones that broke the "press release" that announced the liquidation of everything but Ultima Online (and the cancellation of UO2 the following year). Flash forward to 2002 and we've got Chris Roberts with a new studio working on a WC tv show and we've got an awesome group of programmers making a special edition of Prophecy for our GBAs. The worst has passed.

well as i was under the impression that origin was now 3 men and a server i consider it wierd that they made an expansion!

Nah... Origin does still have a development team, they're even recruiting new people. It's just that they don't do anything other than UO expansions and general UO maintenance, at least as far as we know.

if they liquidated everything WTF is up with the wc rights? why don't they liquidate those already...

Unfortunately, the rights to WC are in that limbo where they are too valuable to let anybody else have, but no valuable enough for EA to commit their own money to developing.

So count yourself lucky that Raylight was able to seize the moment and jump on the opportunity to make Prophecy Advance. Origin currently has five job oppenings for designers and programmers they are trying to fill.. and their application lists Origin as the home of such groundbreaking franchises as "Wing Commander and Ultima." There'll be more WC games on PC when the time is right, but right now we have to push where we have leverage.. and that's on the GBA.

I like that enthusiasm!!!! :D
This thread is good news! I thought Origin was way worse than that nowadays...

Hope you are right Chris, but I dont think so....
Also, I dont know if I want a new WC game without Roberts himself or his team.A Wc from a different team..I dont know why , but I think Im not gonna like it

Privateer, Privateer 2, Armada, Prophecy, Secret Ops and so on didn't really have "Roberts or his team" in many ways. The movie did have Roberts, and many people didn't like it. And the Academy TV show did not have him, and it tends to have higher favorability ratings. Roberts is great, but by no means absolutely necessary. Let him do the TV show and see how that happens. From what I've seen so far, I trust Raylight to do the series correctly on the GBA.

Well I was talking about the main Series. With Blair.I really like the senarios Roberts do.In P2 was Erin huh? His brother :)

Then everything's good. He'll be able to do a lot more story and scenarios on a tv show than making games.
