what prophecy/secret ops fighters can fly in atmosphere?

I'd assume they all can, to a degree... It seems all WC craft can fly in the atmosphere enough to at least land and take off...

yes. but only a few could be used to actually operate in a planets atmosphere.

and how much pressure can a fighter take? is that ever mentioned?

Wow you're advertising your posts in other threads for no apparent reason? You're an incredibly frightening freak.

I imagine some of it would have to do with what weapons work in atmosphere. In WC3 at least, a number of the gun types became ineffective in atmosphere. From memory, the Tachyon worked fine, but the Reaper theoretically didn't.

Another reason why the reaper isnt around anymore? Something to add to the other thread. Definitly most weapons will be less effective in an atmosphere, except missiles.

If the Scimitar can operate in an atmosphere, anything can:)
Are you sure the longbow or the devastator can?
Both of them seem to be more submarine like then plane like!
Or at least they don't have wings wich could be used for flying.

Well those are bombers not fighters so you may have a point. I dont see why they would need to be atmospheric capable cause cap ships usually dont hang out on planets:) THey may have to take off from a planet though, if its a planetary base.

Yeah but he said anything can. And therefore he didn't exclude bombers!!

We know the Longbow can from WC Acedemy. In one of the episodes (I think it was "Word of Honour"), we see the Longbow being used to pick up pilots that have been shot down.

Well, in modern day combat, bombers fly mssions in support of surface troops as well as well as destroying enemy infrastucture. I imgine that bombers in WC would have similar roles in addition to destroying capships.

Yeah but academy isn't a very reliable source.
I mean they use hellcats and arrows at the academy and scimitars for real fighting.

First things first, it must be noted that being able to fly in an atmosphere doesn't mean that you can do anything more than fly to an airfield and land (and then take off and go back out). Remember what Halcyon said in WC1? Most fighters aren't designed to handle the stresses of atmospheric combat - but there are a few that are specialised for that role (Ekapshi, Excalibur), and at least several others that seem to be able to handle it without any trouble (Sartha, Scimitar, Jalkehi, Hellcat, Vindicator, Dragon, Dralthi I, possibly Dralthi II, and probably one or two more ships from the WCA cartoon which I couldn't remember).

Academy's just as reliable as any other source. Scimitars were, in '54, the workhorse of the Confed fleet. As for the Hellcats and Arrow (only one :))... well, we don't know when the Arrow was developed, so that could have been a prototype, or an outdated variant. Same for the Hellcats.

Halcyon's quote gives the impression that the fighters *could* be equipped for atmospheric missions...

(... further, the fact that he's specifically noting that after two years onboard the 'Claw would seem to indicate that this is a *change* from the norm...)
