WCIII Dos Version - Defending Sol Mission Bug ?

Hiya,

First off, I know this is not really a hardware problem, but looking into the other subforums made me think that it still would be placed best here. So here's my problem.

I've been playing WC III a few days now and once more I've proceeded to the defense of earth itself. But there seems to be kinda bug that won't let me solve the mission even in easiest difficulty levels.

Well, first off, you start with Maniac as wingman but as soon as you autopilot to the next area, he won't be with you anymore! Then you need to make a run for those Paktahns in order to maintain the two Confed destroyers alife. No matter what happens, after destroying some fighter waves you encounter several Strakhas escorting a corvette each, after a few waves the big dreadnought appears. Now, no matter WHAT I do, I can't complete the mission. The Dreadnought seems not to be vulnerable to my weapons. Even a bomber loadout with the Longbow (4 Torpedoes and 16 Dart DF Missiles) would only cause heavy damage but not fully destroy this ship. Now, is that MY imagination or is it a bug ? *jokingly* No, it MUST be a feature! When I remember playing the WC III PSX Version years ago I could destroy that thing for sure. At least I completed the game on the PSX. Am I missing something ? What is going wrong ?

Please help me!

The Dreadnought can be killed AFAIK, but it is extremely hard and futile. The mission you talk about is unwinnable - more enemies will spawn infinitely.

You're on the losing track, so you are doomed. The dreadnoughts are eventually killable, but they'll just send in another one.

Well, since I've never been on the losing track of the game before, I suppose that there's been something wrong in one of the earlier missions, since - no matter what I do - I cannot complete the "Free Dr. Severin" Mission.

I will look into this further.

Thanks so far,

I had that problem once, by any chance did you destroy any of the builds on the ground? I destroyed one once by accident and failed the mission.

Well, of course I did not. Had the same idea first, but multiple runs lead to the same outcome. Every tank and every atmosphere fighter destroyed, tough I don't get the vid in which vagabond lands nearby and knocks the doc out. Radar is clear of enemies though.

No, I'm aware of the several ground navpoints. I referred to my navmap to make sure I didn't miss something, but I'm certain that I've done everything possible. Though I don't get that damn landing vid ... x_X

I never seen them send in another? all I got was infinite fighter spawns after I killed it.

To win the "Free Dr. Severin" mission, I would advise you to take out all the tanks first.

BTW, I'm having a few of my own problems with the WC3 dos version. On the last mission of the game on the winning path, how do I get to Kilrah instead of facing infinite waves of "Stalker"?

If it's the very last mission, you need to cloack before going to a specific navpoint to avoid the infinite waves of fighters

Well, I solved the problem. Now I've freed Dr. Severin. Don't know what was different this time, though ...

I just did it like before. Rushin' in, killing of those Ekapshi Fighters, then destroyed every tank seen on the radar. THIS time I got the vid sequence, freed the doc and switched to the winning path once and for all. Did not have those troubles with the PSX Version, don't know what kinda bug I've faced here, but everything's fine now.

The PSX version doesn't have ground missions, so you wouldn't have had to worry about tanks and such in that one.
