WC4 - why was Blair called back to duty...?

After WC2 Blair mostly gives me a sense of someone who just wants to stop the damn war and go home, which he tries to do after WC3. He was fine with using the Behemoth and he was fine with using the Temblor Bomb; whatever it takes. The reason why he goes against Tolwyn is that Tolwyn has this idea of a Spartan utopia where the fighting never ceases -- the "good" ending and the "bad" ending both have Blair stay on the force because well, the price of freedom IS eternal vigilance, just in the bad ending he's a lot more bitter and disillusioned and has become a bit of a control freak. Good ending: "I like flying, I'll put myself in a position where I can fly without actually having to shoot at anyone, but I'm sticking around just in case". Bad ending: "People are stupid, in order to prevent more wars I'll have to squash them at the beginning and I can recycle the BL infrastructure into a unit for doing just that".

As to Blair being GE -- Blair and Dekker are clearly in the "good" 10% since they're both in good health and, let's face it, extremely talented professionals in both their lines of work, so neither of them would need the GE program even if it was possible to apply it retroactively. The scientist even does say to the both of them "thank your parents" -- even today, you CAN become a Marine if you have, say, a messed up left eye, but if you make the cut to join an elite unit like the SEALs it probably means Mother Nature gave you a hand. Blair is a complete Gary Stu and Dekker and his people are some sort of seriously badass infiltration team, so...

Velina Sosa catches on to this, and realizes that, for example, she'd have been destroyed by the Gen Select weapon just because she has to wear glasses -- this to me parallleled Jaws' female friend in Moonraker (remember the James Bond movie?)

I wouldn't go that far. While Blair wants the war to end, you can tell he has some misgivings when he confronts Tolwyn ("We're going to Kilrah with that thing, aren't we?"). If anything, Blair is the over-the-top "moral center" the game anchors to - so I don't think he'd be gung-ho for a major genocidal act, even if its in reply to Locanda.

Thats an observation so bizzare, it's almost astute. (Though I never bought into Jaws turning legit in that movie - thank god they brought him back in EON)

Yeah, she's not sure if she would have been destroyed or not. Glasses aren't a deterrant to being GE worthy. In WC4, if you look at the guy who's checking inventory on the Black Lance ship before Blair sneaks into the GE meeting, you'll see that he's wearing glasses.

Whoa, let's clear up som misconceptions here...
1) Blair was haunted fot the rest of his life by the T-Bombing of Kilrah. Just check his dialogues in WCP. He was never "easy" with that... He had to do it so he could SAVE THE HUMAN FREAKING RACE, but it was a heavy weight on his conscience.

2) The nano killers had nothing to do with HEALTH or CONDITIONING. it was clarly and strictly related to the genes. IF you had the genes for some hereditary malady, such as miopy or hemophily or some kind of genetic predisposition of cancer, you'd proabably be killed. The nanites checked you DNA. if they found any genes that were in their "Kill" database, boom, you're gone. You may be kinda fat or have the flu, but if you conform to Tolwyn's genetic ideal, you're ok. You may be in top shape and 100% healthy, but if you carry some forbidden gene, you're dead.

3) the GE guys were lab babies, whose DNA was created using the genes of Confed's best. Even Blair's genes were employed in the project. If they could just pick any regular joe and run him through a GE program, than it would be unecessary to kill the "unsuitable" people, just make them better. They refer to the enhancement of the human race, by creating people with better genes, not the enhancement of normal people by some dexter-like machine. That's all in the game and books, although I can't cite particular pieces. The GE soldiers were bred and raised to do a particular job. That's why they were so lost when the program was abandoned, they had nowhere to go, no normal lives to go back. They ressented the "inferior" people, and when tolwyn gave them a direction, he earned their complete loyalty... The GE guys a pretty much the same as the Clan warriors in Battle Tech.
