wc1&2 KS problems with Sidewinder Pres. 2 USB

Well, I guess the title is quite revealing, but let's go:
I want to play WC1&2 KS with my MS Sidewinder Precision 2 (USB, they all are). The stick is seen by winXP and works with WCSO, so no problems with it. the WC executables were set to win 95 and 98 compat and no deal.
Any suggestions?

WELL, I have some important info on KS... Something I had forgotten myself: KS installs DirectX 4 NO MATTER what version you already have on your computer.

So you always have to REINSTALL Direct X after installing KS!
that fixed my joystick problems.

IIRC, Kilrathi Saga tries to install DirectX 2.

And is quate infamous for that. Some guy even called it "Kilrathi Pack".

There isn't a DX4. It is DX2 that it tries to install. However AFAIK NO version of DX overwrites NEWER files. So while true that you cannot stop the KS installer from running DXinstall it actually should find that when checking files that NO files are to be replaced. What I know is that it never destroyed andything in DX for me.
