WC X-Type Still In Progress (July 27, 2004)

Pedro sent us another screenshot to let us know that his R-Type inspired Wing Commander shooter is still in development. The original was a Java test program, but he has mostly transferred the game to C++.

I'd like to request some help from 3D modellers. I need to to know how easy it is to convert multiple texture models into single texture models (so as to be compataible with md2), the alternative being to the WCP format (which has obvious mod benefits, but time is a factor). Also help with a few
textures for special effects such as explosions, lasers, lens flares, etc. would be appreciated. Now would be a good time for special requests.
The work is going slow because Pedro has a busy schedule, but click the "Discuss" link below to provide helpful feedback and requests.

Simple answer: It depends.

For instance, I was able to compress most of the Bearcat's textures into a 256x256 block, but even then it still has three textures. If quality isn't a factor, or size, it's quite easily possible ... I don't know the limitations of the .md2 format, though.

Texture size isn't an issue at all, I doubt there are many people who still only have access to a Voodoo chipset, consequently one large texture actually has performance benefits. The md2 format does support higher resoloutions (it specifies texture co-ordinates from image size and pixel number, which when loading you use to get a real number between 0 and 1, OpenGLs stanard S, T co-ordinate system). Just the usual rule, the dimensions have to be of the form (2^n)*(2^m)
