There was supposed to be an escort carrier in WC4...

Never showed up in the game. Was it supposed to have any unique characteristics? Any idea on it's specs?

I think loaf posted a picture of it a while ago when the CIC posted models of ahips from all the games

i heard that there was also a BL stealth carrier supposed to be in WC4, but it got cut

Hmmmm.....

Odd shape for a carrier, I'd say. But then again, in WC, who says the shapes of the craft have to make sense?

'Sides....in WC4, all you have to do is get within' 10,000 klicks, and lob a torp at it.... That one would just have been another big ship that went down way too quick. If she were constantly launching Dragons though...

Could that carrier cloak?

As far as we know, there was a 'stealth battleship' concept in Fleet Action that was under construction the same way the Hakagas were in the Kilrathi Empire. Nothing about cloaking, though...

I think they're discussing a hypothetical situation. Also remember that favourite saying about lack of evidence not being evidence of lack...

According to the WC3 novel, a huge cloak requires a nebula to hide something the size of a jump point, which is probably a space a few kilometers in diameter. End Run states that the cloak requires an incredible amount of power from the ship... which means no shields and weapons. Paladin notes that they can't use the cloak all the time as well, and have to coast with scoops full-open when they don't need it, to replace their fuel consumed... and they run with it for a limited amount of time - just long enough to jump in and look around. This is definitely not like the Stealhs and Strakhas we saw in WC2 and WC3, which were apparently cloaked for more than a few minutes, staying that way only until they needed to fire weapons. With WC2, we know they were cloaked long enough to reach the Claw, since neither Blair's or the Claw's sensors picked them up... which is probably a lot more than the few minutes Paladin used it for per jump.

Therefore, we do have evidence that the cloak requires a lot of power, and when you scale it up... it loses effectiveness. While a carrier is smaller than a jump point, either you're going to need a shitload of power and equipment to cloak it... or else you can sorta cloak it, but not too effectively as you've got a lot more in the way of engine emissions and area itself to hide.

Maybe I didn't read far enough back in the post, but wasn't the BL carrier/transport in the WC4 novel made of some sort of radar absorbant material?

Actually, the BL Jammer Ship merely had all the equipment and radars needed to block all sensors and comms in a system...

Dunno anything about radar-absorbent material, though.

Wasn't refering to the Jammer ship I was refering the the BL carrier in the novel. In the novel we get the Dragons from capturing the Princeton don't we? I'm getting them confused.

The first BL 'escort carrier' we see in the Novel is a Caernaven-class frigate with a hangar bay bolted onto it. Otherwise, the only Black Lance carrier we see is the TCS Vesuvius itself. TCS Princeton was a Confederation carrier when we captured it in the shipyard, even though they had a Black Lance ground crew and fighter squadron on board... as evidenced by the fact that the Border World marines were being helped in their assault by the TCS Navy personnel crewing the ship.

Otherwise, there is no carrier with 'radar-absorbent' material.

Sorry, let me clear it up, I'm being a bit vague. I was confusing the BL dragon carrier from the game with the Princeton in the novel. I don't know where I picked up the radar-absorbant stuff.
