WC aces Ships

David Wade

2nd Lieutenant
does anyone still have the stats for the wc aces ships still been looking for them and can't seem to locate them trying to use them for a campaign I have in mind

He's talking about the ships designed by Wingnuts in the mid-to-late 90s for the WC Aces club PBM stories.

I've found some info through some comprehensive digging of the Wayback machine; such as the Katana fighter:
https://web.archive.org/web/19991001221150/http://www.cjnetworks.com/~3dade/stats-Katana.htm

Or the Nemesis battlecruiser: https://web.archive.org/web/20010515181157/http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~theraj/nemesis.htm

There's also the UBW Retaliator: https://web.archive.org/web/20010521104828/http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~theraj/retaliator.htm

All my digs began with the old Ace's Lounge archived from 1999 found here:
https://web.archive.org/web/19990428182049/http://www2.southwind.net/~rbeyer/Lounge/index.html

and Assassin's UBW database here:
http://www.intercom.net/user/chapin/wmain.htm

Some of these links still work plugged into the Wayback, though many are dead. Got a bit of weepy nostalgia just seeing the drink list in the Lounge (and finally found the recipe to Jumpshock.) There's a lot in here so feel free to continue the hunt. This was only about 20 minutes of research on my own.

Squadron dismissed.

Thanks guys I was looking in particular for stats on the constitution class battleship and the halsey class corvette can't seem to find them dang it I wanted to put them together for this campaign

That's still more information than I've been able to find in a year of (admittedly half-hearted) searching. Might want to copy off that drinks list, Whistler - folks were asking about it during the last CIC birthday celebration, IIRC.

I recall the Constitution design from years ago. I forget but didn't the aces have wc-aces.com or something as a master site? That might be a URL to try and look for on the wayback...

That's coming up with a few hits; thanks Dundradal.

EDIT: Just found the stat set for the Black Ship...

which one is the black ship

TCS Orion. It was referred to as the "Black Ship" in a number of the stories IIRC.

Struck out on the Constitution and Halsey classes with the wc-aces domain; the pages were there but the Wayback Machine had their archive dates as some time in 2012. Makes me wonder if there was an error in their archival, and if there's a way to report it or not. At least I know how the directory structure worked now.

Anybody else know of any other domains the Aces used? I know acenet.simplenet.com was one but I've already checked that one pretty thoroughly.

Try going through old front page updates from the early years. You'll probably find some updates on Aces stuff. Or check out the old newsgroup, alt.games.wing-commander.

Yeah, I went ahead and got a copy of the drinks list for my own self. HTML 1.0 makes me nostalgic...ah for the days when websites could look like total crap and nobody cared because nobody knew any different. The syntax was way easier. Except for tables - those things sucked. Still do...

Thanks for the leads; I'll see if they turn up anything.

EDIT: Bottom two were duds, unfortunately...

I believe I may have some of them in the original format. I saved a number webpages like that for my personal use years ago. I know I have the Constitution-class BB quite a few others. You could (assuming it is possible?) to Private message me I can try to email what I have to you or figure out some other method.

That'll work; I'll send you a PM.

Files received, thanks again, eshauber.

Got the Constitution in the files; I can try to get a stat set up and going sometime next week, David Wade. Still no dice on the Halsey, though there are a good number of others that I should be able to add to the catalog.

Hmm...David Wade was looking for a corvette; those specs are for a carrier, so I'm pretty sure that's not the same ship. Though I could certainly convert that ship into WCRPG stats easily enough as well...

I was looking for the corvette but that carrier looks nice. I was planning on using them and the la Torp boats to test my new ship in a ccampaign setting using my new battlestar based carrier I wanted to put her to the test.

Been reading through the first chapter of Holding the Line and already had inference to being very similar to a modified Venture with 3 turrets, ala Johnny Greene of End Run.

I'm just going to read the series and take notes, see what the story itself tells us. It'll probably be a little incomplete but some stats are better then no stats.

EDIT:
Wings to the ship that feature the port and starboard turret, unable to fire below the vessel and the rear turret is a particle cannon. The Halsey featured in the beginning unfortunately doesn't last long. However, there are some production notes:

"After the Cynium Campaign concluded, Terresa Jensen joined the ranks of the unemployed, dismissed from the Confederation Space Navy as what was referred to, only partially jokingly, as an "administrative casualty." Her rise from a lowly gunner was littered with write-ups and chewings-out for repeatedly telling the Weapons Officer aboard the Arlington what a horse's ass he was. That everyone aboard the destroyer thought the same of him meant nothing to the review board, who didn't look beyond the record of the Weapons Officer when reviewing her record, especially not past the Navy Cross for Gallantry Under Fire he earned during the closing months of the First Terran-Kilrathi War.

Fortunately for Ms. Jensen, though, she caught the attention of the CEO of Tartarus Heavy Industries, one Duncan MacDonald. He hired her almost literally from the unemployment line as a weapons expert for the Project, which eventually became the Admiral William Halsey-class corvette after a brutal competition for a new UBW corvette design. Already, her skill had prevented numerous costly mistakes in building the Halsey-class, after the BWS Jack Fletcher and her sister ship BWS Horatio Nelson were destroyed while buying time for the colony."

Will keep skimming the series if I can find anything else.
