The Burning Questions (August 11, 2006)

Long Live the Confederation!
After all that, Paul Hughes was still kind enough to answer some of my most nagging questions. We've collected them all in an interview article. It's obscure stuff about how Privateer 2 works and who built it that way -- but it's certainly required and fascinating reading for anyone who's paying attention a decade later! Find out exactly how registration numbers work and why the Windows 95 port was too fast here.

Thanks for sharing these answers with Loaf and the community, Paul!

I remember being very impressed with P2's graphics back in the day and it seems as though you were able tweak the venerable software BRender engine for excellent performance at the time too (although as you mentioned it could have been 30% faster!). If memory serves, I think P2 put many of the early hardware 3D games emerging in 1996 to shame! The artwork team also did a great job with the designs and textures. :)

Cheers,

Bryn

Very interesting read indeed. Nice to know that they did a lot to connect it to the WC universe.
