That's No Carrier, That's My Wife!

Is it just me, or does this Gundam toy look a lot like a Kilrathi Snakeir? They sell them at KB Toyses, if somebody wants to paint their own catbox.

And add turrets! Can't foget the million and one turrets!

Since it doesn't look exactly like a Snakeir, we could fib and say it's a WC2/WC3 era varient? Hell the fanfic people do it! :D

I would buy one, but I can't paint worth a crap, so....

On the other hand, it looks pretty darn cool the way it is.

Ah, yes. The classic Pegasus Class Assault Carrier.
I love those things.
Very nice looking design, especially the newer ones from 0080 and 0083 (the original White Base was a little too stubby, imho).
The newest Gundam, Gundam SEED (aka almost, but not quite, MS Gundam), has a very similar ship, the Archangel.

Hmm....."Real Life" size scale model.....welp....lets just say that it is not near "Real Life" size, but it can be!

Meh, I can't see that much of a resemblance, it's a bit too squat. Looking at it at a different scale, the shape seems more suited to a fighter to me.

It IS a carrier, although much smaller than a Snakeir. The Albion (which is the one shown - the specific Gundam on display is kind of a giveaway...) and the Gray Phantom both carry half a dozen attrition units, although White Base never has more than five. The prongs on the front end are the launch tubes.

Oi, I never said it wasn't a carrier. I just said that looking at it at a different scale, the shape seems better for a fighter design. [What would a carrier need with gigantic tail wings?]

Putting thrusters as far away as possible from the center of gravity so they provide more torque and a faster rotation?

The Pegasus-class Assault Carrier is capable of atmospheric flight, which proves useful when mobile suits that can't fly (such as all of the mecha in MS Gundam) need to be transported into outer space. Admittedly, it isn't particularly aerodynamic, and those wings aren't going to provide any lift surface, but White Base spends at least half the series travelling across the Earth, and the Albion also has a few episodes that are spent inside the atmosphere. The wings probably help a little with the maneuvering.
Also worth noting is that the wings on the Albion (the one pictured here) are more pronounced than the wings on the other two Pegasus-class carriers that appear. The White Base and the Gray Phantom both only had one wing on each side slanting up, as opposed to one up and one down.

But it's not like that in the pic...

And junior, you're obviously looking at it from the perspective of an avid Gundam viewer. I've never seen Gundam, nor that ship before, so I was simply stating my opinion. Okay? ;)
