Star Wars: Attack Squadrons

I feel a great disturbance...

Seriously, there's a lot yet to be revealed, but PvP only sounds pretty terrible, and the trailer on the website http://www.starwarsattacksquadrons.com/ seems pretty terrible too...

Plus it really bothers me they're using the LucasArts logo when they laid most everyone from LucasArts (along with many from ILM) off and it's essentially just a Disney-usable logo now...

I guess it could be fun, say, two teams (Rebels and Empire) each with their own cap ship to protect, but an arena game is limited at best and gets old fast. I have a bad feeling that they might just take the old X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter engine, add in 16-player multiplayer, throw in an arena, update the graphics a little, and call it a day while selling pay-to-win type stuff.

I might try it, but I'm really not very interested, especially with no single player campaign. (Now, if they did a new campaign-based X-Wing or TIE Fighter game [and actually put effort into it], I'd be all in.)

I'll stick with Xwing Alliance. No more MSN Zone, but that hasn't stopped us from rousing furballs.

The ships in the XWAupgrade project still keep coming even after all these years. You don't even have to just fly the default flyable craft! Edit the shiplist file and you can fly damn near anything, even capital ships! The controls are like flying freighters with no cockpits (just the generic shuttle cockpit, but you literally can make your own), but it can be awesome. I love stringing a bunch of ships and stations together and just unleashing turbolaser hell.

Best of all we can write campaigns with ALlied now free to download and the projects models look gorgeous even in the old Totally Games engine.

So, they saw how Chris Roberts was evolving the Space Sim genre and thought "We need to make a quick cash cow, because look, that Star Cinema game by Chris Roberts is making piles of money!"

Hmmm..
Not sure about this one,
http://www.area52games.com/ doesn't exactly fill me with confidence,
I think the strength of the previous Xwing & Tie games was the Campaigns, not sure a multiplayer only has that kind of pull (looking at all the previous attempts, XvT, Galaxies:Jump to Light Speed etc) . The mention of Free to Play concerns me a bit as well.
That said, early days, I would like to see more than poorly voiced trailer before forming any judgements.

That's a very cynical view to take Centurianmudpig, I would suspect its got more to do with Episode VII than what Chris Roberts is doing.

The current job listing seems to imply they have little actually done. This one, like SWTOR's, feels like another, "me too!"

Furballs are fun, but start to wear out fast with no direction other than the same repetitive melees. I don't have any good expectations of this game.

No location?

I' bought XWA off Ebay last night, will definitely have to check out the multi-player when it arries.
Make sure to download the 2.02 update with a guide on the fonts issue here:

If you have a 32 bit OS that is preferred for the installer (as it uses 16 bit code and will not work by default on x64). If you only have a x64 OS then you have an option but it does require a bit of work on your part.

Visit here and follow the instructions for a 64 bit install.

Don't forget after all is working well, download the Ultimate Craft Pack here from Darksaber's website:

Keep up with the project here:

Wait until you face a Super Star Destroyer. The new architecturally correct Super Star Destroyer.

Some of the newest craft haven't been added yet so download any new releases that come after the file's date of upload. If using online I strongly recommend sticking with the default install options for choices.

Cases in point, there's a LT-3000 and there's a Lady Luck. There's a Millennium Falcon with Han and Chewie and another version with Lando and Nien Nunb. There's a Firespray etc, etc. Stick with defaults for max compatibility with others online.

I never actually downloaded the UCP but rather downloaded each model separately from the main site. Guarantees you have the most up-to-date models installed. Also, if a server favors a specific model ship from defaults you can easily pull up the individual ship packs to change models out.

Plot your course and happy hunting.

Wha....... Tie Fighter Conversion?? SOLD!!!!!
Just a reminder, you must own a legal copy of Xwing CD, TIE Fighter CD, or a CD from the collector's edition that included XwingCD, TIE CD, and an XvT demo. The mod installation must verify a legal copy to proceed.

I cannot verify if the floppy equivalents are usable, as I lost all those in '01.

So you must have XWA and an aforementioned game CD to play.

The developers themselves stated that the floppies won't work.
One reason is that the TFTC installer converts the voice-overs from the TIE Fighter CD (both DOS and Windows versions)

Yup, I have the Tie Fighter Collectors edition CD-ROM somewhere, will have to dig it out.

Really looking forward to try this. Hopefully it will run smoothly and that it stays free (not that you have to pay for certain upgrades).
