Star*Soldier Q&A Thread

Bandit LOAF

Long Live the Confederation!
Once our series of gloss updates is finished we're going to do one "Q&A" post -- so submit your Qs here so we can get you some As in time for whatever the publishing deadline is.

I'm going to assume you don't mean, "When do we get the next issue?" because that's the first question I would like to ask.

Hmmm, this is hard. There's alot I want to know, but most of it is in-universe stuff, and I get the impression that most of what I would ask there probably aren't answers for (Like Zhrtx's Betrayal).

Some of these, in fact, you might be able to answer yourself LOAF.

My first question would be...Was the time line written in it's entirety and then cut down to fit in Star*Soldier, or was only the section written that appears in the Manual? I thought I remembered you (LOAF) saying there was some sort of general time line they were following, but I may be wrong about that. Going along with this, how much of the war did they 'plan' out, so to speak, and how much was just written in as filler material?

Third, what year did they consider the war to have 'ended' when they were writing Star*Soldier? One of the Gloss pages mentioned that they had the war 'going as late as...' a certain date at one point, which made it sound like they had experimented with different dates for the war as they fleshed out the time line some what, or maybe it just means that they were ambiguous as to the dates.

I also have some questions about some later pages that haven't been hit on in the Gloss yet, so I think I'm going to save those. =P

EDIT:
I would also like to know how the writer envisioned Fluid Space, mostly because I'm morbidly curious about the Nephilim side of things.

A lot of this kind of stuff is unused concepts from prophecy and it's follow-ups (most of which never saw the light of day...)

Aye, I went back and read some of the gloss again and realized that he answered the Fluid Space stuff already.

Some questions that came up:

- Is the Midway still active (as a flagship)? I am referring to page 12 of course and the phrase "The current Midway-class ships differ only visually from the Confederation flagship".

- Any particular reason why Kur does not have his real WC 2 VDU image?

- With the five sides of the Kilrathi civil war specified, can we assume that the other noble clans (Caxki, Ragitagha, Kur'u'tak, Sutaghi) support Melek/the Assembly of Clans?

I've taken away the impression that he (Melek) was the least liked of the factions. Murragh technically has the best claim for the throne, he just has to exert his influence.

Melek was seen as a usurper or placeholder in FC. Not as a respected leader, but then again that was from Ragark's POV.

That's quite possible since Melek is the one who surrendered to the Confederation. Still as you wrote, we do not get a really objective view on him and the function of the Assembly of Clans. I mean, perhaps all Clans sit in the Assembly and still fight each other.

First off, my thanks for organizing this and for the hard work that obviously went into this great manual!

This isn't a great question, but I might as well ask it since it was obvious how much time and attention was given to resolving many in-universe discrepancies.

The Lexington from Armada is mentioned in Star*Soldier so I wonder if any further thought was given to identifying what class of ship it belonged to, and perhaps just as importantly, what the 'official' layout of the ship is. Right now, it seems the ship can either appear as the cutscene images (inspired by SWC) or the in-game image generated during flight.

I think Saga has gone with the SWC idea, but I could be completely wrong here. I only mention this because it seems that a lot of recognition was given to Standoff and Saga by Star*Soldier if no other info was available for making a decision.

Okay, people, get your Q&A in here ASAP.

How long did Star*Soldier take to produce overall?

After the timeline, what's your favorite page(s)?

Was there anything else you wanted to put in that you didn't get to (that hasn't already been mentioned)?
