Senator-General Taggart

Dahan

Rear Admiral
I have been going through all the references I have plus reading the references here online and I am confused about Taggart, aka Paladin.

- WC1 We are introduced to him as a old Scottish 45ish Major in the Space Forces

- WC2 We learned that he is Special Operatives Officer with the Rank of a Space Colonel

- Prior to the Battle of Earth he has the rank of Commordore in the Confederation Navy

- In WC3, he is a Space Force Officer, though I could not see his Rank Insignia

- In the novelisation of WC3, Taggart was a full General

- In the novelisation of WC4, it states he was a retired Brigadier General

- The game manul of Prophecy, Taggarts letter head says General ret.

So I ask this questions which final flag rank does Taggart have when he retired from Confed Military before joining the Assembly.

I think a few of your references might be wrong. I'm not sure what you're citing in terms of the Battle of Earth - he's not given a rank in Fleet Action.

Also, "General" isn't a specific term - it doesn't automatically mean four star General (O10). Paladin retired as a Brigadier General (O7).

We can probably put together a pretty interesting service history for Paladin from various sources, if you're interested.

Hmm, I suppose that's possible -- but there's a fifteen year gap between the movie and the Battle of Earth.

When Paladin first shows up in Fleet Action, he's answering a question that "a commodore asked from the back of the room" -- that might be the source of the misconception. (But I'm grasping at straws).

Yeap that sounds interesting Bandit, what do you have in mind??
In regards to the reference. The novel for Wing Commander 4 says that he was a Brigadier General whereas the novel for Wing Commander 3 states that he was a full general (novel by Forstchen & Keith), the movie states he was a commordore and the game manual in Wing Commander Prophecy states that he was a retired General. That is the specifics I know regarding his flag rank.
Which rank does Paladin have at the end?
I can confirm that if Paladin held the rank of Commordore in the Navy in the movie that is equivalent to Brigadier General, so I want figure out which final rank did he get?
Did he recieve an honorary rank or was he promoted to Full General???
There are a lot of difference references from the novels and game manuals and I think it is a little bit confusing.

OK I would agree that Paladin retired as Brigadier General
but after reading the novel for WC3 it states he is a full general, even thou that wc4 novel it states as a brigadier.
I am at a lost to determine if Taggart retired as a Brigadier-General or Full General..

The Wing Commander III novel *does* call him a Brigadier General at least once: " But when Blair was offered the wing commander's slot aboard the Concordia, Angel transferred to Brigadier General James Taggart's Covert Operations Division." (Chapter Two).

I don't think it knows what it means when it refers to a "full general visiting" the Victory.

Ah I missed that section. But then it opens some other questions then.
If the author refer Taggart as Brig-Gen then why would the author refer Taggart as a Full Rank General when he arrived on the Victory. I am beating my head over this.
Personally I would have preferred to have him as General than Brigadier.....eh....*shrugs*
