Dude, I just gotta be totally honest. I have no idea what that is or how to play it. I want to play it really bad. Is this a MOD? I don't even know what a MOD is. Do I need another game in order to play this Privateer thing? I know I have a lot of catching up to do, but could someone explain what this is and how I can play it. It looks super badass and cool.

Mod is a modification to a commericial game, this one happens to be for freelancer. You need to own freelancer to play it. Then you install the mod into the game so that it replaces all the old graphics/sounds/ships/etc with the mod's which reflects privateer.
 
Go here for more info on FreeLancer and on how to install Recknoing properly, which requires a third-party program (a very useful one, as a matter of fact).
 
I think I get it. I guess I'll have to go out and get Freelancer then. I've never played it before but I've heard you guys talk about it. I guess once I get it, I'll ask later how I get the Privateer thingy to work. Thanks.
 
There'll be instructions to the FL Mod Manager, most likely. Follow the mod manger's installation instructions, then activate it in the mod manager.

It's a lot simpler than trying to install one manually. *shudders*
