Privateer MIDIs Rerecorded With Top Roland Hardware (December 9, 2014)

C75 doesn't play Wing Commander games, but he loves video game audio! After carefully going through each of the tracks in Privateer, he's put together a treat for fellow fans. The original MIDIs have been run through a fancy SC-55 and the gorgeous audio output has been captured in lossless flac files. You can listen to a preview via the embedded YouTube below, but I highly recommend grabbing the full zip (248 megs). It includes 23 of the Gemini Sector's best tunes - nearly a full hour! There's background music for the various bases as well as different tracks for things like space combat. One of my favorites is the launch into space. If this has put you in the mood for more, check out the music in the CIC archives here.

Tracks were converted with SC-55 soundbank, mostly, to wav. I spent lots of time to listen and adjust each track to convert it to its eternal glory. Now I have it in lossless format, FLAC, 44.1 kHz, 16 bit, (youtube) audio has AC LC 448 kbps. Have a nice day.

It's been a long time since someone's done a good audio rendition. I'll set this to download overnight and give them a listen tomorrow. Thanks, C75!

This..is..Amazing!

I was just listening to Intro and Launch and omg.. nostalgia but better since it has been mastered.. C75, thank you very much for this!

Not sure why I took so long to get around to listening to this but I managed to do so today. A few things I've noticed:
  • Intro and Main Theme appear to be slightly different variations of the same track. I'm not sure, but I think Main Theme was the final version - maybe Intro was a 'beta' arrangement that got left in the data files? I don't know how C75 got the MIDI data or the track names (if he hasn't played the game), perhaps he's the sort who likes to go through game data to find audio goodies like these.
  • This may be why there's an 'alternate' track for the Agricultural Base as well - the 'alternate' one sounds a little more rough, less refined, to me.
  • Gaea is actually the opening scene for Righteous Fire. Church of Man is what I would call Gaea.
  • I know there's no official track names, but Combat I is when an enemy is near. I would call Combat III the main combat theme. I think Combat II is what usually plays when no enemies are near - straight after a jump or after killing all nearby hostiles.
  • Actually, Combat III and Panic are the same track - I think Panic is the final version.
Subtleties aside, thanks for the recordings. I think Mad Hatter's recordings - also on a Sound Canvas - sound marginally better (maybe because of things like reverb?) but it was fun to listen to all the same.
