Playtest manual...

I was just wondering...

Does anyone have the Privateer playtester's manual which dates back to 1994?

I'm really curious with its contents?

Wouldnt the Origin hint manual do the job, has alot of info in it! I still see that book at bookstores!

Ja, I've got a copy... it's an interesting book -- *not* written in-universe. It gives you the percentage chance of running into different enemy ships at each nav point in Privateer, some basic hints on playing the game, and a walkthrough of the plot missions (doesn't include RF).

Uhm... I remember dissecting the PRIV.TRE file, and I found some interesting dialogues, like one conversation with a fixer about attacking Militia or some other ships.

Anybody care to explain this?

Judging from that tre file, it would appear that several types of missions - assassinations, spy jobs, smuggling - didn't get into the game. Maybe they run out of time, or simply decided that there was too many options. At any rate, I imagine that there was to be a sort of semi-guild of pirates which you could find in your local bar. But that, of course, is just a guess. Can never tell with these things...

I remember finding this, which is really new (or am I just late?)

Press the Tab key to jump into hot spots when inside bases.

This dialogue was for 'random' fixer missions -- there would be a set of people who appears randomly in the bars who you could get missions from (not plot-related).

I seem to recall that enabling this would have been one of the features of the second Privateer addon, which was cancelled.

Actually, I seem to recall that someone *did* that some years back... but only for the disk version of Privateer.
