Open questions thread from Ginger Lynn Allen

Hey! I was actually reading some WC3 related stuff a while back and thought to myself it would be awesome to be able to ask you about something... but now I can't remember what it was. Typical. :p

But yeah, what Nomad Terror asked... you worked with a lot of great personalities on the Wing Commanders... who were the most fun to work with, and what was the awesomest/most memorable thing that happened on the set?

In WCIII there was a scene where the player has to choose who the ships commander kisses. Flatulance was involved. Won't say who...

How did you come to hear about the casting call for Wing Commander? What were you thinking when you tried out for the role?

It was a long time ago, but if memory serves correct, it was the same person who recommended me for the role of "Ginger" in "Casino" (a role I came in second to to Sharon Stone. I still have the original sides that I auditioned with and the original characters name was not named Ginger. However, if you've seen the movie, they renamed the character Ginger and that's how it appears in the film. With Sharon Stone. :(

Chris must have preferred me over Sharon Stone in this role...

Awesome of you to stop by! We sometimes have the game devs stop by but it's pretty rare when one of the actors visits our humble abode...

Anyway I recently got my DVD of the animated Wing Commander Academy TV series in the mail - which is finally available for purchase after all these years. They got Mark, Tom, and Malcolm to reprise their roles from the games. Did they ever aproach you about lending your voice?

Sad to say, I was never approached. Would loved to have been part of it.

Neato, thanks for stopping by! Did you ever get a chance to play the Wing Commander games much? Wing Commander 3 was recently rereleased online so that it runs well on modern computers, and we'd be happy to send you a virtual copy if you'd like to try it (again?).

Neato, Guido, Speedo.

I have played the game a few times, and I could never get the ship out of the dock. I sucked at it. I probably shouldn't say that, but it's the truth.

That's so awesome of you to drop by!

What were your thoughts on acting out Rachel's character? Did you do anything to get into character before filming? Who would win in a fist fight, Rachel or Flint, and why?

WC was one of the most challenging projects I've ever taken on. The script was 3-4 times the length of the "normal" Hollywood script. Each scene had 3-4 endings and it was so mcuh fun to shoot because it was just so different and exciting. Every imaginable ending I was able to live out and that was just exhilirating.

Well, Flint is taller, but I have 22 years of martial arts experience and several black belts. What do you think? But, in the end, I'm a lover not a fighter.

Hello Miss Allen..

Uhm..I sincerely mean no disrespect Miss Allen, but how do we know its really you posting this?
Its nothing personal as anyone of the guys on this forum will tell you, but there is no lack of forum "trolls" as they are called on the internet.
I really REALLY hate to ask you this, especially considering I really loved your performance in WC III, but can you provide us with some (photographic maybe) proof that its really you Miss Allen?

If its really you, then please forgive me :/.

Well, if you have Sirius/XM radio listen to my show tomorrow on channel 103. I'm on live every day from 11-2 PST and I'm sure I'll mention it tomorrow. Or call me on it big guy at 1-800-774-2388 and come on air with me.

Awesome to have you here Ms. Allen! :)

As for my question: what are Mark Hamill and Malcolm McDowell like; was it fun working with them?

It's nice to have you onboard. :)

My questions (out of curiosity of course): Have you ever read the novelisations of WC3 and 4? If yes, what do you think about both of them, especially about the backstory of Rachel leaving Blair, and in comparison with the games? And what do you think about the fan-made WC-Games and mods, if you've ever gotten a chance to play them (WC: Saga (+Mods based on it), Unknown Enemy, Standoff, Invasion, Privateer Gemini Gold, etc)?

I've never read the books. Sorry. But I do have autographed copies!

Don't know anything about the fan-made WC games and mods. Tell me more!

Ginger, do you use youtube? If so would you mind watching my Wing Commander III review and If you have a youtube account, comment on it? I would love to have your comment and opinion on it. (like an online autograph haha)

Otherwise just enjoy the review, from what I can see there's no video reviews of Wing Commander III out there except mine. So I think you might enjoy the nostalgia. (I mention your character around 4:59)

Thanks Ginger, you're very kind, beautiful, and down to earth.

I've never read the books. Sorry.

The part that involves your characters is in the game manual, and contains the first chapter. Basicly it comes down to the winning ending where he chose you over flint, and you descend to that planet was the one. WC4's novelisation starts of with him running a farm as a lonely drunk, watching a video-message from you, stating you are leaving him because of his drinking problem, and him going off into town(and a bar) to get some supplies for the farm, the game's movie sequences start with him entering the bar, so there is no mention of your character in the game itself. However most of the recurring cast, with the exception of John-Rhys Davies, Tom Wilson, and Mark Hamill get's killed off during the game.

Your character's replacement in WC4 was an elderly engineer, who customized everything he got his hands on, and while funny and cool, not very much to look at.

Amazing, what a highlight!

Wing Commander 3 came out when I was about 12 years old and it was my first WC game. Rachel was so beautiful and sweet, yet at the same time strong and professional. Like in the scene where she tells the main character that she doesn't have time to talk to him because she's busy repairing the ships he's got damaged, how could I not fall in love with her? When the time came where I had to choose between her and Flint as my 'love interest', I was actually surprised that the other woman was even a choice. I didn't consider her as anything more than some pilot guy with personal problems at all. Even though my type of girl is actually the brunette, introvert type and was already when I was 12. So that shows how strong your presence in this one was, dear Ms. Allen.

Questions I have none to ask you at this moment, but please please keep visiting this forum, I'd love to read more from you. It's such an honour to have you here.

Awesome to be here. You guys are great.

My fondest memory of the project is one that no one with the exception of me and my grandmother will ever appreciate the way I do.

Most of the sets were shot on a green screen. My grandmother, bless her sole, had a great fondness for lime green and dayglow purple. I invited her to the set nearly everyday we shot. And one day during dress rehersal "Gram" walked accross the green screen while the cameras were hot. The image everyone saw on the monitor was my grandma with her purple shirt and her grey hair floating accross the monitor with nothing below the waist showing!

There was one cast member that was the butt of many, if not all of our jokes, but most likely for this person, they were too dunk to remember most of it. That's all I'll say about that.

If you knew me, you wouldn't ask if I kept anything from the shoot. I keep everything. I have every jumpsuit, uniform, toolbelt, nametag, t-shirt, sweatshirt, pair of shoes and everything underneath (yes I mean my socks) from the shoot. I have everything. That's how special these things are to me, and that's just the kind of girl I am.

This is now my favorite thread out of being on this board for 13 years. Thanks so much for the reply!

Nice to see you kept so much stuff from the shoot. Not enough people seem to do this, so it warms my hear to know that somewhere, some of the stuff is still held on to by someone who has good memories of it. Do you still have the uniforms on hand or are they boxed up in the closet? Some of us who have been on this website for a long time have been wondering what the make/model of the blue jumpsuits were.

Any chance we could ask you to climb back into the outfit one last time, maybe take a few pictures for the fans? :)

Sure. :)

There are many Fan-Projects to tell you about, so I hope that I don't write too much text and too many links.

Unknown Enemy and Standoff are Add-Ons/Mods for WC: Secret Ops. Unknown Enemy takes place during Prophecy and you're a Pilot of the Union of Border Worlds (Johann Daniels), as you fight Kilrathi pirates and an ivasion by the Nephilim (the bugs from Prophecy).
In Standoff you participate in the events of the novel Fleet Action, but not as Blair, Bondarevski or other familiar WC Characters, but as another new character, William Bradshaw. The Kilrathi and Confed have signed a truce and Confed decomissions most of its fleet. But the Kilrathi break the truce and head straight for Earth.

There's another SO-based one, which hasn't been released yet: Collateral Damage:

Wing Commander Saga: The Darkest Dawn takes place during WC3. In this game, which is based on a modified version of the engine of Freespace 2, you are a new pilot, David "Sandman" Markham. You take place in events, which would eventually lead into the events of WC3. Beautiful graphics, fun gameplay, professional voice acting, a believable storyline (+prologue) and much more expect you.

There are mods for WCS in progress, most notably Aginor's Kilrathi-Mod, Kevin Caccamo's Hostile Frontier (which is based on the novel False Colors), ScoobyDoo's ships and Deathsnake's Enigma 2666 (a WC2 remake but the missions are a bit different)

WC: Invasion is a modification for Star Wars: Empire at War - Forces of Corruption, a Real-Time Strategy game. You command your Confed, Kilrathi or Nephilim ships from the bird's eye view:

Privateer Gemini Gold is a remake of WC: Privateer, based on Vega Strike's engine. This is a space trading game, in which you fly your ships, buy and sell things, accept missions and fight enemies like Pirates, the Kilrathi, Confed, Militias, Hunters and the Church of Man (aka Retros):

I can't really think of an intelligent question right now, not even a dumb one although i'm good at that.
So just thank you for gracing us with your presence, it's very much appreciated. Rachel is one of the most popular Wing Commander characters, and it was always fun being praised when we returned with a decently looking fighter. Heck, it was even more fun being scolded if we barely made it home with a scrap heap.
