Need a Hand...

Dralthi5

Spaceman
I'm playing WC1 and I've hit a snag. I'm supposed to defend this Ralari captured by Confed and bring it back to the Claw, but it explodes mere seconds after I hit the navpoint! What the hell am I supposed to do to save this Ralari?

Heh, heh, I hear everyone finds this hard, though personally I don't have too much trouble with it...

I think this mission has been mentioned in just about every site with WC1, and I get the gist that there's no correct way to complete this one - everyone has their own method. It doesn't really matter if you fail this mission, though, I think you still end up going straight to Venice without detouring through Rostov - if you've down well enough in the other missions.

Well, I've won every single mission up to this point, so I guess I can forget it, but I'd still like to complete it.

What are you supposed to do? Play until you win, of course. Take the Salthi out with guns only, then burn in towards the Ralari and you use missile/gun combinations to quickly take down those Gratha from the rear. Just remember to order Bossman in to help.

First, don't use the autopilot, just burn to the Ralari as fast as you can. Also don't bother with the Salthis, they're just a waste of time. If you use AB's the whole time, you should get to the Ralari right before the Cats do. Order Bossman to break, while you go after any Kilrathi that are shooting at the Ralari. You have to use your missiles efficiently because you need to kill the Cats as fast as you can.

So often has this mission been mentioned that it was featured in one of the Q&A departments of Computer Game Review magazine.

Essentially, the secret to capturing the Ralari intact is not through unorthodox tactical flight maneuvers, but via verbal taunts. The Kilrathi are as drawn to insults as they are to valuable targets; use their psychological nature against them by goading the Gratha pilots into attacking you instead of the Ralari.

Though this strategy is not always effective, it has helped me on numerous other occasions where escort missions were involved.

The only advice I'll offer here is to watch out once there's only one Gratha left. Rapiers really do pack a punch...
