Spaceman
main problem is lack of music. fx ok. using audigy2. every other game etc works.

2nd prob joystick drifts all the time; sometimes southeast, most times north: using Saitex cyborg 3d: but had problem with old analog stick too.

question: haven't read all the things-to-do list yet - but the control over twin display screen - Orion + Galaxy is a mess: why not use the left and right square brackets to scroll screens as in priv itself?

good remake, though. it's a joy how well the wallpaper tones suit the old game, not the godawful stiff on X2 etc

thanks for your time

The music files are midi files. You might want to check your synthesiser settings in the control panel. The Microsoft synth works fine even if the osund quality isn't great.

About the Joystick, I had the same problem (with a trustworthy ThrustMaster).
It's the joystick's fault, not the game's, but the game can compensate. Take a look inside vegastrike.config, and find a variable, "deadband", in section "joystick". Set it higher, and you'll be ok.

Of course, setting it higher may make slight course changes difficult. But I'm working to fix that already, so perhaps in the next release it will be fixed.

Actually, I beleive the sound files are OGGs, and I think they play through the Windows Wave out, not Midi Synth.

Yes, you're right, the sound files are oggs. However, if you look in the \music folder then you will see that all the music files are in fact midi files.

We also have the music in ogg on the serve, and I am fairly certain the default install of the game usees the oggs instead of the midis now. The music folder should have both oggs and midis if you look.

If you want to know which it is using, open up your /privateer/.privateer100 folder and open some of the .m3u playlist files in a texteditor and check which extensions the files have.

happy tweak: you can edit those playlists to play whatever you like (limited I believe to midi and ogg and maybe mp3? don't remember).
