1. I'm still getting used to the VS NAV map. If I click "down" while in the quadrant view, I can see the system I'm in, and all of its jump points, NAV points, and bases. How do I see that information for other systems without jumping to those systems?

2. Is the repair droid funtionality broken? If I take hull damage and get flashing static in my MFD and/or shields display, I can fly around all day and it keeps flashing. I have an advanced repair droid on my Tarsus.

3. The "r" key brings up the damage report MFD. In the original, this was a list of your ship's systems (targetting, shields, engines, etc.) that would be colored green yellow, orange, red, or gray, depending on the level of damage. The damage MFD in the reamke is just a 3D view of your ship that is colored a certain shade of red. Is there a way to see the list like in the original?

4. I find that my tractor beam sometimes doesn't work after I've been pretty shot up; is this by design?

Umm. . .Take an Orion out for a test-spin. Not only will the Tractor not work, neither will the guns.

Upon further review, I find that my tractor beam is simply invisible lately, so I think it probaby was working before, I just didn't realize it.

Y'know, I've noticed that too. Sometimes the blue ray isn't there, but it still works. You just need to get close enough. Wonder why it's intermittent.

I just figured it was my video card. That and the 20 to 30 second loads to get from docking to actually seeing the landing pad. Again, my video card is NOT the best. Thanks HellcatV for the font fix. I can play the game because of it.

And when I said the guns wouldn't work, I was referring to when you get so badly shot up that to go anywhere is a major effort. Like back to the docking clamps because you got shot up before you moved more than a few K out of range.

So, any answers to the above?

Considering that I was stacking things and shouldn't have been, I'll have to see how it acts now that I'm not. I think I'll take on five Kilrathi, that usually leaves me limping about. Then I'll try and run around without getting killed off. If things repair themselves, then it's working. If not, then there's an issue to be resolved.

It definitely works. Just not as fast as you think it should. And man. . .I had five Gothri kills finding this out. I took a bounty assignment that was SUPPOSED to have 1 escort. ONE. I got there and there were 10. A considerable site better than the one that I went out on only to jump into system and find a swarm. I never did find out how many, I only saw this massive red dot in my radar as I did the cowardly lion. AAAannywho, this time I killed the two I needed, using the Pirate trick of strafe, slide and run, turn, charge, missile, strafe, slide, fire and run and then and made like a tree.

I ran them completely around the system, getting three more kills trying to get away. They shot my afterburners all to hell and gone. I was almost there, the planet was looming in my sights, I mean, I was 9K away from sanctuary and BOOM!

You have died. Press ; to respawn or Q to quit.

BUT, in all fairness, my Radar was the first thing to come back on line after my first attacks.

First it went black and white and lots of snow.
Then I had the occasional Arky Sparky,
Then it suddenly was all calm, cool and in living colour again.

Then I was mixing it up for the last time, just jinked when I should a jagged or something when POOF! Pretty Colours! Now if I could get the kills back with out having to go through all that.

You know, that slide is cool when you master it.

If you can control your rate of turn as you slide you get LOTS of hit time as you totally take out their shields. front, side and back. Then you overtake them only to do it again. Way cool

Glad you like the engine. It pays to have 3d physics being simulated at times.

things really seemed to have come together for this release now :)

Yeah!
I mean, I went from his port to his starboard, fore to aft I swear, if I could have gotten the velocity to work, using him as the sling, I would have been able to go right back up the other side. It is WICKED! If I could get the tractor to latch on. . .

WISH LIST
MONDO STRENGTH tractor-beams. Enable with the guns during the slide, it keeps you pointing at the target allowing you to use the velocity to take you into an eliptical slingshot! MAN what a concept!

hey... it's pretty easy to add such a thing... you could just hack the repulsor to do that in the weapon_list.xml :)
it does actually apply a force to the objects... Just make sure to keep rate and phasedamage at the same level and the pull will go up (the polarity of the damage determines if it sucks or blows)
just change the damage rate of the tractor to make it pull harder :)
if you make it high enough you can indeed toss ships around...

if you had a combination of a tractor and a repulsor--it'd be like the gravity gun in Half Life2

Oh I have got to play with that some.

But you'd have to have the beam in the secondary mount, not the primary, so you can fire it independently of the guns. Two handed, as it were. But it MIGHT work. I'll have to toy with it. =)

make the repulsor beam a different type of gun than the tractor beam
like repulsor is considered a light gun
and the tractor a special gun
then they won't sync up together If I remember

Hrm. . .Okay. Thanks. First I have to get the spreadsheet data input. I did make an offer and then I got wrapped up in this and. . .Well I guess reality reared its ugly head. All play and no work is NOT good.

Sorry, JKeefe, thought someone had answered.

On 2, it should be working, I think the settings on repair time are just very long.
3. At the moment, the 3D view with red damage shading is all that's there. The damage list is something that may be considered in later release.

Don't know the others, sorry.

Hacking the repulsor

Well, I've hacked it. But there's a mild problem.

Regardless of where you get your gravity reference (F-9 / F-10) in the slide, no matter how strong the repulsor is made to act like a tractor for the slide, your ship is the pole or fulcrum. It becomes the SOLID reference in space, regardless of the mass and velocity of the object it has latched onto. Either it's too weak to do anything, or it's too strong and pulls the other ship past you.

Oh, you can pull a ship with it. I can toss a Galaxy over my shoulder with it. Don't blink, you'll miss it flying over 3000K behind you. As soon as the other ship starts to move it's GONE! I've reduced the strength, and it doesn't do anything. There seems to be a fine line on the strength. I'm still toying with it though. ;-)

Also, dependant on your angle of attack, you can wind up pulling the other ship into yours. Talk about parking lot dings.

My poor ship! I'll have to sell it for scrap!

For some reason YOUR ship becomes are the fulcrum and they do the swing. You would think that during the drift you would be the loose object. You aren't. YOU are the pull that they can not defeat. Here, mass has no meaning.

Got to be something I'm doing wrong.
