Moray,Devil Ray,Manta,Skate, What's next?

What do YOU think should be a new Alien ship class?

For example, I would love a Shark-Class ship. Stronger then a Devil Ray, but still made from intercept purposes. Wild Weasel, at times.

I've always wanted to see more support ships (on either side) -- the myriad of different transports, spaceborn factories, ore carriers, hospital ships, space barges, tugboats, etc. that keep the war effort running. Flesh out the background instead of just showing us the latest and greatest weapons of war.

It's from Star*Soldier

It's also not anywhere in the games. :)

Puffer, Shark, things that make sense. I'm talking about what should they dish out next.

They ARE a warrior race. No need from such things.

Are they a warrior race:)? We don't really know yet...

I'd love to see the 'reefs' described in passing in Star*Soldier. I envision spaceborne organic ship-farms growing Morays and Mantas...

For the Terrans I'd like to see some private ships - in short, a full living universe, like the cruise ship.

For the Aliens, I don't know. A dedicated bomber perhaps? Or more ships à la Stingray that can merge and disconnect.

Good call, more composite fighters -- maybe a Wasp-style interceptor made up of individual parts. It could be the "Starfish"... five quick light fighters that can connect together to boost in and out of battle. Might make for some interesting tactics, with them flashing in, attacking and flashing out... the player would have to make a point of focusing on taking out *one* element quickly to disable their special ability.

Sounds good. Whenever I heard the joined Stingrays' Plasma gun, I always disengaged and destroyed one of them - they were far more dangerous than Red mantas or Skate Ts for Capships I found. And when I saw a Stingray slowing down, I knew what they were up too. But they were too easy to kill with ELRIRs - one missile would break the cluster and the Stingray had no possibility to evade.

I would also like to see some more quality Nephilim ships, like the Manta or Devil Ray. And I like the idea of the plasma cannons that even small ships (like single Stingrays) can damage cap ships.

Anyway, maybe the WCP Nephilim with their marine-inspired ships are not the sole fighhters of the "aligned people". Even though by 2701 Confed seemingly only encountered the bugs, maybe there are more races to it with a different theme.

Heh, I imagine the aligned people just needed cheap bugs to wear down the other species... They probably have a bigger, meaner dedicated warrior race out there. ;)

Actually, I've always imagined the fighters, and maybe even corvettes being grown in the carriers themselves, that would be so cool.

The reefs i imagine would be where the bigger scarier ships like the hydra or even a carrier would be grown.

I seem to remember reading an interview with, I think, Adam Foshko that said that Prophecy would kick off a new trilogy and in each new game you would meet a new member of the "Aligned Races".

Anyway to maintain the oceanic listings how about:
Thresher, Hammerhead, and Mako class fighters
Krayt class frigates
Sawfish class kamikazes

The talk of composite fighters got me thinking, what about AI controlled composite torpedoes. Maybe you have two or three corvette size ships in a big battle they all lock onto targets and shoot off bits and parts of the weapons which fly out and don't assemble until they are almost ready to strike a target. That way even if you do destroy an assembled torpedo the surviving components could still form into another torpedo with other bits still flying. Such a thing could even serve for story points, maybe the AIs become cliched, I mean self aware, and turn on their masters, or maybe Confed just creates a new cool weapon to deal with them.

Sawfish class kamikazes

Now THAT sounds cool. Chasing down bugs that are intent on crashing their ships into your carrier.

That would really get the idea that these aren't you daddy's big bad space aliens, they've got enough pilots that they can afford to design ships just so they can crash them into you.

If their ships are ogranic, then couldn't they give the sawfish a small brain? Put them on some sort of modified transport that dumps them and runs, letting the locals clean them up while a real attack wing aproaches.

I don't remember that one, but I'd love to see it - it'd definately add something to our analysis of Origin's intentions (you know, without having to just ask Adam...)

I know the suggestion of late is that they're organic in the organism sense -- but here's the usual reminder that 'organic' doesn't mean what we all think it means. Plastic is "organic"...
