Microsoft Hands Over the Reigns (February 10, 2004)

Bandit LOAF

Long Live the Confederation!
If you're a regular space sim fan then you've probably already heard the news: the source code to Allegiance, a Microsoft-developed multiplayer space-combat game, has been released as a free download. The source code is basically the "skeleton" of a computer game - and if it's released to the public, qualified modders can make sweeping changes to the game... like, say, a Wing Commander conversion! Amateur developers, start your engines! I'm sure Hadrian is standing by to help out with any potential fan project. (Next up: FreeFreeLancer.)
