Lance Fighter

Seventh Part of the Seal
I have a love/hate relationship with these fighters. They're sleek, fast, and way overpowered! I can't call this a gripe thread because this is a fighter I don't have much of an issue with. Except that it makes things nearly too easy... one shot w/ full guns kills just about anything.

So my question is... why wasn't it equipped with a Turret? Its certainly large enough to house one, we see it compared to the other fighters on the Intrepid's flight deck, it takes up the entire bay! Also, the armor in the back seems a bit thin to me, I don't know if it is, but it always seems to shred the fastest, given the probable cost of building one of these, a rear gun would have insured its saftey.

Probably the desire to keep the Lance as a one-man fighter was considered more important. In the novels we are told that computer-controlled turret fire is greatly inferior to human-controlled--enough so that it's worth putting gunners in every bomber, with the extra life support and ejection cost as well as risking additional lives.

Besides which it seems designed for ambush. It need a lot of juice for it's cloaking device and unlimited afterburnes so it seems (though not really based on anything other than what I assume it looks like and a few lines of dialogue) to possibly have a bigger than normal power plant. also Rear turrets aren't needed much when you can just cloak

Space Point - nothing much to say here, I think y'all have it covered.

(And what was up with Blair and Maniac's 'I have a turret, too' conversation? Not frequently they don't!)

I would also make note of the rear of the Lance. There isn't any room for a turret. The rear of the fighter would seem to be occupied by the advanced matter/anti-matter reactor.

Honestly, the Lance just does not need a turret. It's fast, reasonably manoeuverable and ultra heavily shielded and armoured.
