Amazing video compilation, and I even recognize the song. My wife used to spin (when we still could afford our Decks). I'd love to see more of that high grade texture art. With the measuring bar that Chris Roberts has set, the gloves can finally come off.

Even older work collected from the web, 1996 stuff here. This was Privateer II the Darkening. My first game of twenty....

There was this thing about not having wheels ;o).

Hope you guys are enjoying this blast from the past.

It's all very old stuff now. A lot has been done since then, I think I've built every Star Wars ship known.

Oh that's so great to see. I fear Chris won't be able to take you into his team, the game would be too awesome for our universe and punch a hole through space-time continuum if there's too many old devs working on it.
Can you elaborate some on the design process, were you given a rough direction or did they pretty much take what you gave them?
And WHY was the hamster scrapped, the fish could stay too?

Two ships with two different looks; that was the plan. I had a simple layout drawing in Photoshop. Later I did the pencil drawings to show what was in my mind. The rest I made up as I went along.

We had a few simple rules and just put the headphones on and flew; had to work as fast as possible, we only had two of us building the rooms.

Has to be said, Paul Jones was much better than me, he had more experience at the time.

I don't remember a fish. But your right, there was a hamster ;o).

Awesome! I love this stuff. I'm honestly more interested in the Privateer 2 stuff though which looks awesome. Starlancer was good. I just don't have the same connection with it.

We did recently find some of the raw frames of the Privateer landing animations. I recompiled them with the audio from the game videos. You can check them out here: https://www.wcnews.com/news/2011/08/11/highres-p2-landing-videos

My browser is telling me that all of these videos are 'corrupted' - do I need a special codec or player? Thanks.

They're MKV files. So... the answer is probably yes to the codec... As long as you have the matroska codec you should be fine with media player. However it's probably easiest just to download VLC player which should play them right out of the box.

It's either Astro Commander or Klavs. That's two today...

Even older stuff, 1996. Again, work in progress. This was Privateer II the Darkening. My first game of twenty....

That's really great. I'm also eager to see the Privateer 2 stuff. Would you mind if we posted some on the front page for other fans to see?

Great stuff Michael, glad you could make it aboard! Your interior stuff is especially compelling, great inspiration for me, thanks for sharing it!

Just sent my resume to Cloud Imperium, this site has got me all exited about spaceships again.

You can do what you want. Give credit to Paul Jones, Chris and Erin Roberts where necessary . I was working for Erin at the time. All this stuff has been out and about for a long time.
