How big is Confed Space?

How much space does it cover?

Also, how much space do the Kilrathi occupy?

I wish to know how far the Bannockburn was from Earth in Fleet Action when they sighted the Hakagas.

If so, I can figure out how fast the translight-message travelled at.

This is off-topic in the off-topic zone :(

Also, it's rather difficult to set actual positions in Wing Commander, as travel isn't really based on actual distances, but rather on wherever jump points may lead...

What would be the point of making a guess... You could go and try and scale it to the Prophecy map... That wouldn't help you much, though, because it obviously lacks the z axis and it really isn't scaled properly anyway...

Since interstellar transportation in the Wing Commander universe relies on Jump tunnels, which are naturally occuring wormholes that connect neighboring stars to each other, the actual distance between systems is normally disregarded. This means that the "size" of Confed or Kilrathi space is not measured in terms of the amount of volume the respective nations occupy, but rather in terms of how many systems they each contain (for example, if Confed had two hundred systems--I don't recall exactly how many).

I wish to know how far the Bannockburn was from Earth in Fleet Action when they sighted the Hakagas.

As above, distance between systems is irrelavant because of the Jump tunnels--transit between the connecting Jump points apparently takes mere seconds or less. All that matters is the amount of "real" space that must be traveled to get from one Jump point exit to the entrance of the next Jump point.

If so, I can figure out how fast the translight-message travelled at.

According to the Jump FAQ found on the CIC (and please correct me if the Confed Handbook says differently), communications between systems is accomplished through the Jump tunnels. What happens is that a ship sending a message will send the signal towards the first jump point on the route toward the destination, and the signal will pass through the Jump tunnel (Jump tunnels apparently do not need to be fully opened to pass data, only matter). Once through the Jump tunnel, the signal is picked up by a relay station/bouy and retransmitted towards the next Jump point on its route. We see the necessity for these relay stations in WCP when the relay station in the H'hriss system is down and as a result the Midway is unable to communicate with HQ.

You cant mesoure anything. :( Look at the map , every dot is system with its planets etc.

I dont know if this is off-topic or not.It has to do directly with Wc..
The moderator will deside ;)

How Big Is Confed Space?

Big Enough To House The Confederation.

Space is a gaint black vacuum how would you measure that .now the distance between stars I believe we sorta do that now but as a whole I don't think it has a end that we would relise. maybe though it ends up being a giant circle like the earth if you go far enough you come back to where you started?

we measure the distance btwn the stars by how long it takes that stars light to get to a certain place. this is called light-years.

Yeah sorta said that didn't know the technique name though. As for the original question as a whole I don't think we could measure it all, not until we atleast get space flight like in WC. (and I still wonder if you go far enough if you would end up back in this system like going around in a circle. I have a hard time believing that there's no end to space. as I think theres a end to everything eventually.):D

Anyway, I think that the relavant measure of nations like the Terran Confederation and the Union of Border Worlds is in terms of the number of systems/inhabited worlds that they occupy rather than in terms of the volume that they take up.

Why number of systems or inhabited worlds? Why not all planets... shit, why not count the planetary debris inbetween orbits too while you're at it...

Depends on whether you think that 1,000 asteroids 1 km wide or less should count as more than a world with a billion people living on it.

Anyway, juding a nation by how much space it occupies doesn't tell you much of anything--for example, maybe the UBW is mostly located in a region where stars are more widely spaced than in the heart of the Confederation. In that case, the UBW might take up more cubic light years than the Confederation, but it would still be smaller since it has fewer worlds and less population.

For an Earth example of this, look at Canada and the United States. Canada clearly has more land area even when you include Alaska into the USA's landmass, but more than half of that territory is completely uninhabitable frozen tundra--something like eighty percent of all Canadians live within 200 kilometers of the border with the USA.

so there are actually 3 different human planet alliances The Confederation, Union of Border Worlds and the Landriech Planet alliances (too lazy to see what False Coolrs called it.) right?
