Also, how much space do the Kilrathi occupy?
Since interstellar transportation in the Wing Commander universe relies on Jump tunnels, which are naturally occuring wormholes that connect neighboring stars to each other, the actual distance between systems is normally disregarded. This means that the "size" of Confed or Kilrathi space is not measured in terms of the amount of volume the respective nations occupy, but rather in terms of how many
systems they each contain (for example, if Confed had two hundred systems--I don't recall exactly how many).
I wish to know how far the Bannockburn was from Earth in Fleet Action when they sighted the Hakagas.
As above, distance
between systems is irrelavant because of the Jump tunnels--transit between the connecting Jump points apparently takes mere seconds or less. All that matters is the amount of "real" space that must be traveled to get from one Jump point exit to the entrance of the next Jump point.
If so, I can figure out how fast the translight-message travelled at.
According to the Jump FAQ found on the CIC (and please correct me if the Confed Handbook says differently), communications between systems is accomplished
through the Jump tunnels. What happens is that a ship sending a message will send the signal towards the first jump point on the route toward the destination, and the signal will pass through the Jump tunnel (Jump tunnels apparently do not need to be fully opened to pass data, only matter). Once through the Jump tunnel, the signal is picked up by a relay station/bouy and retransmitted towards the
next Jump point on its route. We see the necessity for these relay stations in WCP when the relay station in the H'hriss system is down and as a result the Midway is unable to communicate with HQ.
