Welcome, WingNuts to the Wing Commander Combat Information Center's 8th Anniversary Party! This year, we're celebrating more than just our success and the amazing quality of our community: 2006 also marks the tenth anniversary of one of the greatest games of all time, Privateer 2: The Darkening. With that in mind, we've decided to focus many of this years efforts on that often overlooked title. Read below to see the many updates we have ready for you - including a giant collection of videos, some behind the screens material, an all new Darkening ships database and a tech support section that will help everyone keep playing Wing Commander forever. In honor of this event we have asked Erin Roberts, the man in charge of Privateer 2 and the brother of series creator Chris Roberts', to say a few words about the game and his work. Here's Erin: -- Original update published on August 11, 2006
That's a really great letter. I hope this dispels once and for all any controversy over the inclusion of P2 in the WC universe. After all, it seems it was fairly early in it's development that the decision was made, and then effort was made to put in those wonderful references that people like LOAF have been uncovering and catalogingfor some time.
Good decision to make P2 the focus of this years birthday party and updates, Loaf, especially given its 10th year anniversary. I know it's the WC game I've spent the least amount of time on and rather embarrassingly, one that I've failed to complete in terms of experiencing the main plotline. Erin and Paul's recollections as well as the host of other P2 media you guys have collected has peaked my interest in the game again and it's definately something I should revisit in the future. Cheers, Bryn
Priv2 was a really cool game back then. I loved the cutscenes and the gameplay. Pitty it didn't have subtitles, though
I had a hard time trying to figure out some of the more obscure cutscenes. The art direction on that game was original.
