Raider, what? What do you mean?

LOAF, would you happen to know if the ships on FA cover are suposed to be the Hakagas?

That was obviously the intent of the cover.. there are some good similarities to the written description too.. although LOAF might have a better fit.

Though the engines seem to be uncovered, and in the novel it's said that they were covered with durasteel.

It said they were concealed and armored didn't it?

The ER cover seems to give a reasonable idea what a CVE might look like. I wish I had a cd model for the Tarawa, anyway the ship in FA looks more like a Ralari than a carrier.

Yeah, they were *inside* the ship about 50 or so meters from the ending of the ship, and there were durasteel doors that could be used to cover the engines, and later could be blown off if they wouldn't open.

Yeah, I think it looks like a Ralari too. And the CVE looks a little like the Confederation IMO.

Earthworm: I meant that all of them were either destroyed or crippled.

Three were destroyed near Earth, and one was cripled during the battle of Sirius I belive, and the last one in Terra space was also heavily damaged, but wasn't in as bad shape as the one from Sirius.

It's still only five of them though, we don't even know if the other seven were finished. And it's not like they were destroyed because of any design flaws or anything, but because of Thrak's ignorance, as well as not sending the full fleet of the carriers to Earth as originaly planned. And they weren't destroyed by any fighters or capships, but by marines, which is somewhat unusual.

Speaking of FA, who are the characters on the cover?
Sorry, forget it. I screwed up

About ER cover. This carrier #12 - a full copy of Confederation Class Dreadnought (like CVS-65 Concordia). Interesting...

And BTW, Concordia was a single ship in this class? I don't know any other Confederation class Dreadnoughts.
Probably prototype TCS Confederation (the class' name comes from). But I never heard about this TCS...

And about FA cover. These ships looks like a big Fralthi I class. And I think there is a logic in that. Hakaga class was designed in the middle of 2650s, and Fralthi I was a prototype for Hakaga.

ER cover can't be a dreadnought, it's too short and the design is very different. The most obvious differences are the lack of forward facing flight bays, the lack of lower pylons, and the lack of rear wings. I don't recall seeing a PTC either.

Presumably there were other CVSs. It seems to be that Confed produces lines in series of ten. The Confed class could have started at CVS-60. Even the Midway class has ten ships in the line to be built.

Hopefully, none of them will be deystroyed as the Vesuvius class has suffered a couple losses. I wonder if the those hulls were salvaged, the dead confed ships appear to be mostly intact, anyway.

A wingmen is essential; they give the enemy something else to shoot at.
A turret is essential; it gives you something else to shoot with.

Erm, you're thinking of the Ramaans building everything in threes -- we've seen more than ten of some classes of Confederation ships, and significantly less of others.

Other notes on the thread...
The ships on the cover were supposed to be the Kilrathi supercarriers, according to the artist (Paul Alexander?).

The ship on the End Run cover is *probably* the Trafalgar -- since that's the only class of Confederation ship not previously pictured. (Since it's 12, it wouldn't be among the first group of escort carriers). The fighters are probably Grakhi.

The TCS Confederation was the first Concordia dreadnought -- I very much doubt that it was a 'prototype', given the time (five years for the shipyard plus one year to build) and expense (70+ billion) required to built such a ship.

The Hakagas are Kilrathi heavy carriers that appear in Fleet Action, and are briefly mentioned in some other novels. The *big ships* from WC3, are Kilrathi dreadnoughts, they are 22km long, or 22,000m if you prefer, and are probably of Vorgrath (sp?) class.
