Great game, Great questions

currently no, but they still need shields ;) Though perhaps those levels should not be buyable for the player (they aren't, I mean perhaps they shouldn't even show up..). Not that big a deal though, making them not show up instead of showing up red makes no difference to gameplay, but would just be busywork, especially since they might be buyable someday..
 
Excuse the "noob" question but what is wing commander universe? A current project? Or future project?
 
wing commander universe = privateer extended to the entire WC galaxy.

ultimately gonna support things like enlisting, so you can play normal wc missions. possibly replaying wc1/2/3/etc

It's basically the expansion of this game to eventually include EVERYTHING everything. Like one of these days we might be able to fly, say, a surplus Exeter-class destroyer, ergo you'd need a level 8 shield emitter for it. :p
 
Thats one of the largest scope projects Ive ever heard of. It will be damn amazing when they pull it off. Especially considering the quality level of the privateer remake.
