Good Old Wing Commander (October 8, 2009)

Good Old Games (gog.com) is a relatively new service that sells older PC titles via online distribution. The games are patched to run on modern operating systems or simply bundled with a pre-configured copy of DOSBox or ScummVM. Instead of a subscription-based service like the ill-fated Gametap, Good Old Games is shooting for downloadable game sales priced around $10 or less. You do not need a special client to download or play the games after you buy them. Last year, their VP of Marketing expressed an interest in licensing Wing Commander for distribution. Corsair reports that they have a Wishlist where users can vote for games that they would like to see made available from the service. Most Wing Commander titles have several hundred votes, well behind System Shock or Monkey Island, but far ahead of Descent: FreeSpace!

Have you read it the other way around also;

There was this weird asperger kid here a while ago and i got pointed to a freespace fansite, where even in the disclaimer it was listed how superior freespace was to wing commander, to each his own, I hate X-wing.

I think a lot of it is fanboy nonsense.

I've been with WC from the beginning, but IMO, Freespace was that little bit better.
That doesn't mean I don't still love WC, but it seems you can't choose both when talking to fanboys.
I'm glad this place is not populated with them :)

I would look forward to picking up any of the wing commander games at that price its a steal!!!
I had a look at the site, it looks great, can't see if it is available in the UK though. I know Gametap wasn't which was a shame as I was coveting the WCIV on there.

I encourage everybody to signup on GOG and vote for the WC games, for what it's worth. Their signup process is pretty quick and simple, so voting shouldn't take you more than a minute or two.
